Description

PATENTED AUG. '7, 1906. E. H.- W. STAHLH AUTOMATIC DOOR APPLIGATION FILED JUNE 3.1905.
UNITED STATES PATENT oEEroE.
ERNST H. W. STAHLHUTH, OF
COLUMBUS, INDIANA.
AUTOMATIC DOOR-SIGN.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 7, 1906.
Application filed June 3,1905. Serial No. 263.590.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EnNsT H. W. STAHL- HUTH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Columbus, in the county of Bartholomew and State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Automatic D oor- 1,
Signs, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates generally to signs, and more particularly to an automatic advertising-sign adapted to be attached to a swinging door, the object being to provide a device of such construction and so arranged that when the door is opened and closed the position of the sign will be shifted so as to expose different portions thereof, and by applying different advertising-matter to said portions it is obvious that as the door is opene and closed the advertisement will be changed, thereby attracting more attention than if the said advertisement remained stationary.
With this object in view my invention conessentially, of a sign-plate adapted to be pivoted to a door or other swinging object and having a rod pivotally connected thereto, the opposite end of said rod being adapted to be connected to the door-frame or other fixed object, so that as the door is opened and closed the rod will cause the sign-plate to turn upon its' pivot, displaying alternately the opposite ends thereof.
The invention consists also in certain details of construction and novelties of combination, all of which will be fully described hereinafter, and pointed out in the claim.
In the drawings forming a part of this specification, Figure 1 is a view showing the practical application of my invention. Fig. 2 is a detail 'view showing the sign-plate arranged to display one of the advertisements. Fig. 3 is a detail view showing an opposite end of the sign-plate displayed. Fig. 4 is a sectional view of the door and attached parts when the said door is closed. Fig. 5 is a similar view showing the position the parts assume when the door is opened.
Referring to the drawings, A indicates a door, and B the frame to which the door is hinged.
C indicates an advertising sign-plate,which is preferably formed with two lobes, each beadapted to receive an advertisement, which may be printed or pasted thereon, and pivotally connected to this sign-plate at substantially the center of one edge is a rod D.
The sign-plate C is pivotally connected to the door by means of a pivot-pin E, and the opposite end of the rod D is connected to a screw-eye F, which is screwed into the doorframe B in such a position that when the door is opened the rod will turn the sign-plate so as to bring into view the opposite end, it being understood that the sign-plate is attached to a door having a glass panel and is pivoted to the solid portion of the door just below the lower end of the glass panel, so that either lobe of the plate can project a sufficient distance above the solid portion of the door to properly display the advertising-matter. is obvious, therefore, as the door opens one advertisement is displayed and that as the door is closed the other advertisement is disary.
Having thus fully described my. invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is'
The combination with a door having a transparent panel therein, of an elongated plate eccentrically pivoted to the door adja cent said panel, a portion of said plate being visible through the said panel, a rod pivotally connected to the door-frame at one end and pivotally connected at the opposite end to the said plate at a point adjacent the pivotal point of the plate, and adapted to automatically bring alternate portions of the plate into alinement with the panel as the do or is opened and closed.
