Description

No. 827,734. PATENTED'AUG. 7, 1906.
J.KUHN.
MILK PAIL SUPPORT.
APPLIGATION FILED MAY 19,1906.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 7, 1906.
Application filed May 19, 1906. Serial No. 317,753.
To all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JACOB KUHN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Iola, in the county of Allen and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Milk-Pail Supports, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to that class of devices for enabling the milkman to milk the cow and at the same time hold the pail close to the source of supply without having to grip it tightly between his knees.
With this general object in view and others, as hereinafter appear, the invention consists in certain novel and peculiar features of construction and organization, as hereinafter described and claimed; and in order that it maybe fully understood reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation of a milk-pail suspended from a support embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the support. Fig. 3 is an enlarged vertical section taken on the line III III of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a detail perspective view of one of the lockingpins.
In the said drawings, 1 indicates a substantially semicircular downwardly-tapering plate of spring metal and provided at opposite sides of its center at its upper and lower edges with outwardly-projecting flanges 2, having holes 3, which, in one of the flanges at least, preferably the upper one, have extensions 3"*, so as to constitute keyhole-openings. Between flanges 2 the plate is formed with a tongue which is arched outwardly to provide .the arm 4, and said arm is provided, by preference, with a hole 5.
The companion section of the support consists of a second semicircular plate 6 of spring metal and of downwardly-tapering form, and said plate is provided with flanges 7, adapted to flt between flanges 2 when plate 6 overlaps plate 1, and said flanges 7 are provided with holes 8, adapted to register with holes 3, one of the sets of holes 8, preferably the upper one, having extensions 8 so that said holes shall be of the keyhole type, with the extensions registering with the extensions 3 hereinbefore described. Centrally plate 6 is provided with a tongue arched outwardly or in the opposite direction to tongue 4, so as to provide the arm 9, and said arm is preferably provided with a hole 10. The plates are adjustably fitted together to conjointly form a downwardly-tapering band and are secured in such relation by means of pins 11, extending down through registering holes in the flanges 2 and 7 and provided with enlargements or heads at their upper ends, said pins having offsets 13 to pass through the keyholeopenings of the flanges, the pins being then turned so as to dispose the offsetting arms 13 out of register with the extensions 3 and 8 for the purpose of preventing the pins from being withdrawn until they are first turned to effect the registration of the arms 13 and the extensions 8 and 3. A support of this character can be adjusted to accommodate different-sized pails, the pail 14 being dropped down though the band, as shown in Fig. 1. With the pail thus supported the lnilker after seating himself upon the usual milking-stool places the ail between his knees and permits the arched arms 4 and 9 to rest upon and transversely of his knees, in which position the pail may be conveniently supported without fatigue, because the milker is not compelled to press his knees forcibly against the sides of the pail to retain it in position or keep it from tilting.
To adjust the band to different-sized pails, the plates or sections of the band are adjustable longitudinally upon each other to bring the desired holes in register, and the pins are slipped through said holes. The device when not in use may be suspended from a nail or hook or other support by means of one of the holes 5 or 10.-
From the above description it will be apparent that I have produced a milk-pail support embodying the features of advantage enumerated as desirable and that certain minor changes may be made in the form, proportion, detail construction, and arrange ment of the parts without departing from the principle of construction involved.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is I 1. A pail-support, comprising a pair of substantially semicircular plates having their ends overlapping to conjointly form a band, arched arms projectin outwardly from the centers of said plates, flanges projecting outwardly from the upper and lower edges of the plates at opposite sides of said arms with the flanges of one late arranged between the flanges of the other plate, and pins extending through said flanges to secure said plates toether. 2. A milk-pail support comprising a substantially semicircular plate provided at opposite sides of its center at its upper and lower edges with outwardly-projecting peripheral flanges having a series of holes certain of which have extensions, a second semicircular plate having its ends fitting against the outer side-of the first-named plate and provided at opposite sides of its center at its upper and lower edges with outwardly-projecting flanges fitting respectively against the under side of the upper and the upper side of the lower flanges of the first-named plate, which have extensions, pins extending down through registering holes in said flanges and and provided with holes certain of having heads to limit their downward movement and arms to pass through said extensions of the holes and adapted when out of register with said extensions to prevent upward movement of the pins, and arched arms JACOB KUHN.
