Description
N0-- 827,008- Q PATENTED JULY 24, 1906. I. B. GILMORE.
HOLDER FOR PILLOW SLIPS.
APPLICATION TILED 0GT.12, 1905.
IRA E. GILMORE, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS. HOLDER FOR PlLLOW-SLIPS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 24, 1906.
Application filed October 12, 1905. Serial No. 282,459.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, IRA E. GILMORE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Holders for Pillow-Slips, of which the following is a specification.
his invention is a device intended to hold pillow-slips while the pillow is being put therein. Its object is to provide a device whereby a pillow may easily be placed in the slip and to avoid the disagreeable holding of the pillow by the teeth or chin, as is customary.
The device fits in the mouth of the slip and distends the same, so that the pillow will readily drop therein. The holder is also capable of adjustment to accommodate pillowslips of different sizes.
In the use of the device it is sprung or placed within the mouth of the slip and held thereon while the pillow is dropped in place.
The invention will also be use 1 in an case Where it is desired to hold open the mouth of a bag or the like while the same is being filled.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the invention. Fig. 2 is a perspective view illustrating the manner of its use.
The invention is made of wire, in one or more pieces, as desired, and consists of two opposite semicircular or curved parts 6, having a series of downwardly-projecting fingers 7. These pieces are connected at the ends by upright bows 8, which are curled at the top, as at 9, to give an additional spring effect. Each piece 6 has at or about the middle thereof an upwardly-extendin handhook 10, by which the device and the ag held thereby are supported while the pillow is being inserted.
As shown, the various parts are formed by properly bending the wire and may be produced at very small cost.
The dependin fingers 7 engage the hem or mouth of the pilfinw-slip or bag, and the bows 8 serve the purpose of guiding and confining the pillow, so that it will slide easily into the pillow-slip and not catch on the edge threof. These bows also supply the spring-pressure necessary to distend the mouth of the slip and hold the same on the device. They also enable it to be expanded or contracted to fit slips of different sizes.
In use the sl'p is drawn over the fingers 7 and then held in the manner shown in Fig. 2 While the pillow is dropped in. struction enables the slip to be held with one hand while the pillow is being started with the other, or the pillow may be laid on the bed and the slip drawn over it at the start and then lifted and dropped in.
The invention enables the operation to be done quickly and easily and without danger of? tearing either the pillow or the pillows 1p.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A holder for pillow-slips, bags, and the like, comprising a pair of curved members connected at both ends to each other by upright spring-bows and shaped to fit within and distend the mouth of the slip or bag.
2. A holder for pillow-slips or bags, comprising a pair of curved members connected at their ends, on each side, by a spring, and shaped to distend the mouth of the bag, and having depending fingers arranged to fit within said mouth.
3. A holder for pillow-slips or bags, comprising opposite members shaped to distend the mouth of the slip or bag and connected at their ends by a bow-spring on each side, and said members having depending fingers to fit within said mouth, and projecting handles.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
IRA E. GILMORE.
H. G. BATOHELOR.
