Description
To @ZZ whom it may oon/cern,.-
Bfe. it known that I, THOMAS W. MARo'UM, i citizen of the United States, residing at airo, in the Choctaw Nation, Indian Terriory, have invented certain new and useful mprovements in Plows, of which the followng 1s a specification. y This invention relates to lows, and` more especially to plow-points o that character which can be removed for reshar ening or to be replaced by a new one with little trouble and loss of time and at less expense than where the point must bewelded on by ablackl smith. The object ofmy invention is to produce plows of the character outlined of simple, strong, durable, and inexpensive construction.
tain novel and peculiar features of construction and or anization, as hereinafter described and cFaimed, and in order that it may be Jfully understood reference is to be had to t'he accompanying drawings, in whichv Figure 1 is a perspective view of the landside of a plow embodying my improvement. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the opposite side of the plow. Fig. 3 is a vertical section taken on the lineIII III of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a detail perspective view ofthe front end ofthe plow. Fig. 5 is a detail perspective view of the plow-point. f i In the said drawings,1 indicates the permanent point of the plow, the samebeingformed at its front end with the vertical shoulders 2 and the forwardly-projecting tongue 3, and at a suitable point rearward of the tongue the plow is provided with a hole4. The removopposite sides toa oint, and the arm 6, projecting rearwardly irom the landside of the point and adapted to lie snugly against the 4corresponding side ofthe permanent point 1 and said arm is rovided with an aperture 7. The point 5 at the right-hand side ofthe arm is formed in its rear edge with a pocket 8. The removable point is slid rearwardly on the permanent point until the tongue of the latter engages the pocket of the former, the shoulders 2 bearing squarely against the rear ed e of point 5 and the arm 6 fitting flat y against the landside of the point 1 and havingl its aperture 7 registering with hole 4. W en the parts are thus arranged, a pin 9 is Speccation of Letters Patent.
Application filed May 17, 1905. Serial No. 260.890.
To this end the invention consists in cerable point comprises the nose 5, beveled from` UNITED sTATEs PATENT oEEioE.

fitted in said registering aperture and hole and is riveted or upset at its ends so as to guard against any possibility of the remov-l possibility of the arm swinging away from l point 1, this leverage being supplemented by lthe resistance to lateral movement offered by the projection of tongue 3 into pocket 8.
It will be apparent that there will be no tendency of the removable point shearing the rivet, because independent vertical movement of said removable point is prevented by its rear end` bearing squarely against the vertical shoulders 2, which resistance toward vertical movement is likewise supplemented by tongue 3 iitting snugly in the pocket 8. When it is desired to replace point 5 with a new one, one end of the rivet can be cut'or filed ofl", and-then said point 5 can be readily removed. v
From the abovey description it will be app arent that I have produced a plow embodying the feature of advantage enumerated as desirableand that the same is susceptible ofl some modification as regards yits form, proportion, detail construction, and arrangement without departing from the spirit 'of the invention. V
Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new, and .desire to secure by LettersPatent, is
The combination with a plow provided at itsfront end with a tongue 3 and shoulders 2 above and below said tongue, and also with a hole i 4, of a point having a nose 5 to fit squarely against shoulders 2 and pocket 8. to receive tongue3, and having also` at one side of said pocket, an arm 6 adapted to fit against the landside of the plow and provided with a hole re istering with the said hole of the plow, and a device extending through saidregisterin holes and securing the point and the plow reliably together.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature y in the presence oftwo witnesses.
