Description

(No Model.)
J. ZEEK.
PLOW.
No. 323,770. Patented Aug. 4, 1885.
\ :1 fit F 2 WITNESSES: IN ENTOR.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN ZEEK, OF GANBY, OREGON.
PLOW.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 323,770, dated August 4-, 1885.
Application filed February 24, 1885. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN ZEEK, a citizen of the United States, and a'resident of Oanby, in the county of Olackamas and State of Oregon, have invented certain new and useful Improvenients in Flows; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, and in which Figure l is a perspective view of my improved plow with the cutter detached from the same. Fig. 2 is a side view of the same with the cutter in position. Fig. 3 is a side view taken from the opposite side, with parts broken away for the purpose of illustrating the construction more clearly; and Fig. 4 is a horizontal sectional view taken on the line 00 x in Fig. 2.
The same letters refer to the same parts in all the figures.
This invention relates to plows; and it has for its object to produce a plow having a detachable cutter, and which shall possess superior advantages in point of simplicity, durability, inexpensiveness, and general efficiency. With thse ends in view, the invention consists in theimproved construction and arrangement of parts which will be hereinafter fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings hereto annexed, A designates the standardof my improved plow, to which the landside B is bolted or otherwise secured in the usual manner. 0 is the share, and D the mold-board, both of which are suitably attached and braced to the landside and standard.
To the front ends or edges of the moldb0ard and landside are bolted or otherwise secured a pair of false shin-plates, E and F, the lower ends of which extend to the plow-point G, the upper edge of which is beveled, as shown. Between the plates E and F space is left for the admission of the detachable cutter I, the lower end of which is dovetailed, so as to fit against the beveled upper end of the plow-point, and
the upper endof which has a beveled notch, J, engaging a correspondingly-pointed bracket, 'K, secured to and projecting from the upper end of the standard. The cutter may be secured by means of a bolt, L, at the upper end of the shin-plate F.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the drawings hereto annexed, the operation and advantages of this invention will be readily understood. The general construction is simple and inexpensive. The cutter is held in position very firmly and rigidly. The shin-plate E extends over the upper end of the share and is bolted thereto, thus assisting to support the share. The cutter extends farther toward the point than is usual in cutters of this class, and its efficiency is correspondingly increased, and the simplicity of the cutter is such that, when worn out, it may actually be replaced with a new one at a less cost than the expense of sharpening the old one.
Having thus described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States- 1. As an improvement in plows, the combination of the standard, the landside, share, and mold-board, the false shin-plates secured, respectively, to the mold-board and share and to the landside, and a cutter arranged detacha bly between the said shin-plates and resting upon the upper edge of the plow-point, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. In a plow, the combination of the standard having a forwardly-projecting bracket at its upper end, the landside, mold-board, and share, the point of which latter is beveled on its upper edge, the false shin-plates arranged as herein described, and the detachable cut ter arranged between said shi n-plates and having dovetailed lower end, and provided at its upper end with a beveled notch, substantially as and for the purpose herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereunto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses;
' JOHN ZEEK.
