Be it ,known that I, C. K. BRENEMAN, of Newport, in the-county o f Perry, and in the State of Pennsylvania, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in- Clothes-Rack; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and' to the-letters of reference marked thereon.

Y A The nature of my invention consistsin an upright shaft resting on'feet, with casters, and provided with hinged arms, forming a'movable clothes-rack.

In order to enable others skilled in the art to which 'myinvention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawings, forming a part of this specification, and in whichv Figure l is a. side elevation,

A represents an octagon shaft, of dia-meter suiciently large toI give each side such surface as may be desired.

This shaft is, rat its lower end, provided with feet, B, on which it rests, and said feet may be provided with casters, so that the rack maybe easily moved from place to place.

Near the npper end of the Octagon shaft A, are hinged arms, C C, one to each side of the shaft. The hinges D D are secured to the lower sides of the arms, and to the shaft below the arms, so that clothes hanging on these arms may not come in contact with the hinge, which would rust them. The under sides of the arms C C are grooved lengthwise, and in these grooves a brace, E, on each arm, is pivoted,gwhicl1 brace, whenthe arm is folded down, lies in the said groove, allowing-thel arm to be laid close to the shaft. When it is desired to use the rack, the arms C C are raised to ahorizontall'position, and the lower ends of'. the'braces E E inserted in holes or notches on the shaft A, thus holding'thc arms up in the desired position.

At a suitable distance below the arms described, other arms, similarly constructed, are placed on the shaft A.in one or morey series, asmay b e desired.- i

The shaft A may be of any height desired, with the arms in proportion, and the feet ornamented or'plain.

yl this arrangement, a clothes-rack is obtained which can be taken and placed wherever most convenient, and'which, when not in use, occupies very little room. l

Having thus fully described-my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

The arms C C, g'rooved on their lower side, and provided with braces EE, pivoted therein, so that they may lie in the same, and onnected tothe upright, A, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
