Description
and slats in the bottom MICHAEL OULLER, OF FREDERIOKSBURG, OHIO.
IMPROVED WASHING-MACHINE.v
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 82,386, dated September 22, 1868.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, MICHAEL GULLER, of Fredericksburg, in Pthe county of Wayne, and in the State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Washing- Maehines; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The nature of my invention consists in a device for more effect-ually washing the clothes without tearing them, and which is so constructed that the clothes can be easily putin and taken out.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawings, which form a part of this specification, and in Which- Figure 1 is a side view, showing the roller in dottedlines 5 and Fig. 2 is a vertical section.
A represents a frame, of any suitable dimensions, in which the box B is hung by means of two rods, a a, on each side thereof, in such a manner that the box can be moved backward and forward. The box B is constructed with flat bottom, perpendicular sides, and slanting or inclined ends, so lthat the box is Wider at top than at the bottom. The bottom of said box is provided with triangular slats b b, which are rounded on the upper side, and placed horizontally across the same, at suitable distance from each other.
The frame A is provided with arms O C,
extending upward, one on each side, in which arms a smaller frame, D, is pivoted. This frame is provided with arms E E, extending downward into the box, between which arms the corrugated cylinder G is placed, said cylinder having its journal-bearings h1 a slot on each of said arms, so that when the frame D is in proper position, the slats b b fit into the corrugations on the cylinder, and the said cylinder will have opportunity to play in the slots mentioned when the box is moved back- Ward and forward.
The frame D is held in its place by means of hooks on the arms O C; and when it is desired to putin or take out clothing, it is only necessary to raise the hooks i ,and the frame D can be turned by means of the handle F, so that the roller or cylinder will be on top, When the hooks are let down again, and the frame D is secured in that position.
v Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a washing-machine, suspended between the oblique standards A A and upon the rods a a, the adjustable corrugated cylinder G, hung upon the frame D, and secured to operate in the tub, or inserted above it, by the clamps z' 17, all as herein shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto 'set my hand this 1st day of June, 1868.
MICHAEL CULLER. Witnesses:
D. CosPER, W. S. PEPPARD.
