To all whom; it may concern Be it known that I, EDWARD J. SEYLER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Erie, in the county of Erie and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Door- Securer, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to door-securers, and has for an object ,to provide a device of theclass embodying new and improved features of security, durability,-portability, and

. efliciency.

A further obj eot of the invention is to provide a door-securer comprising a plate and a key of substantially the same shape and size whereby they may be held or laid together for transportation and occupy the minimum space.

With these and other objects in view the present invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter fully described, shown in the ac companying drawings, and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.

In the drawings, Figure 1 is a horizontal sectional view of a door and its frame and the securer shown in section applied. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the several elements of the securer disconnected.

In its preferred embodiment the improved door-securer forming the subject-matter of this ap lication comprises a plate 10, substantia ly triangular in form and with a flange 11 bent at the base and the flange reduced to an edge, as 12. The plate is provided with a slot 13, perpendicular to the flange and along the altitude of the triangle. The plate is also thinner at the base or flanged end and tapered thicker toward the apex, which is provided with an opening 14, in which is engaged a ring, as 15.

The plate is engaged in the usual wellknown manner between the door 16 and the jamb 17 by the flange entering the fiber of the jamb under the pressure of the closing door.

If the securers are to be used in association with one door for a considerable time, a plate 18 may be secured to the j amb and provided withda slot 19, in which the flange 11 is engage For operation in the slot 13 a key 20 is provided, triangular in form and proportioned to conform, substantially, to the shape of the plate 10 and of a thickness substantially equal to the width of the flange 11. At one corner the key is reduced upon the sides to form an ear 21, having an opening 22, in which is engaged a ring 23, connected with the ring 15, as by the chain 2 1.

One long edge of the key 20 is broader than the opposite edge, as shown in Fig. 2, so that a broad base is provided for contact with the door and jamb without cutting into or otherwise injuring them. The plate 10 is also thickened toward its apex or small end, so that the end wall of the slot 13 will present a broad surface to the key and so that this portion of the plate 10, which is subjected to the greatest strain, will be reinforced.

It will be noted that by reducing the key 20, as shown at 21, the connecting-chain 24 will not prevent said key and the plate 10 from being placed tightly together when the device is not in use.

The plate and key are so proportioned that the key will lie against the plane of the plate and abutting the flange, and in that position they occupy the minimum space, so that they can be conveniently carried in the vestpocket and be always available.

From the foregoing it is believed that the use, operation, and advantages of the improved doorsecurer will be fully and clearly understood and appreciated.
