ing shown at D. Strip 1 is placed with its off-setportion 2 within the keeper and the wedge-shaped portion 5 of the fastening member is inserted within the slot 4 nearest the casing C and the keeper D. Said lockingmember will thus contact with both the casing and the keeper and the door will be securely held against opening.
-t will be noted by referring to the draw ings that both of the members of the fastener are provided with openings, such as indicated at 8. These openings are adapted to receive the ends of a cord, chain or the like utilized for the purpose of fastening the two parts together.
In manufacturing, the keeper member 1 is first formed by punching from sheet metal or ribbon metal, the staggered slots 4 and the aperture 8 and the curved end adjacent the aperture 8 being simultaneously producedwith the cutting or punching die which also simultaneously forms the outline, the angular offset portion 2 being produced in the second or forming operation.
The holding member 5, is punched from sheet metal, the aperture 8 belng simultaneously produced. The stop ear 7 is then produced in the second or forming step, both members being produced from sheet metal, and without any machine work, thus producing a door fastener by the most inexpensive processes and a completed article at the final or forming step.
It will be seen that this fastener can be readily carried in the pocket and can be quickly applied to or taken from a door. When applied to a door it becomes absolutely impossible to open the door from the outside. 7 V 7 What is claimed is A door securer embodying a flatmember insertible between the, edge of a'door: and door jamb having jamb-engaging means and having substantially longitudinal slots therein, and a fiat angular member, the in ner edges of which are substantially at right angles to each other and the outer edge of one arm converging toward the inner edge from the elbow of the angular member to the extremity of the arm, and the other arm having its extremity bent at substantially right angles into a foot, so'that the first mentioned arm of the angular member may be inserted through the slots of the former member with its outer edge bearing against the faces ofthe door anddoor jamb when they are fiush, and so that the first mentioned arm may be inserted through the slots with its inner edge bearing flatly against the door 'jamb and with the foot bearing flatly against the door, when the. door and jamb are relatively off-set.
In testimony that we claim the'foregoing as our own, we have hereto affixed our sig- I-I. COLLINS, 7
