Description

No. 820,014. PATENTED MAY 8, 1906. O. M. RIBS;
MOLD.
APPLICATION FILED JAN. 22, 19
iii
n esoci e.
To all rah/omit twy conccrm Be it known that l, Oscen lYl'lfRIES, zen of the United totes, residing at Toledo, inthe county of Lucas and State of Uhio, have invented certain new and useful 1mproverrients in Molds; and I do declare the following to be alull, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as willv enable others skilled in the art to which it opio pertains ii-O'Illitli end use the This inventionrelstes to improvements in molds for forming the tops or cops of-chini neys.
- The object of the invention t" r 5 mold which may be quickly and easily edju'sted to lit various sizes of ehii'nneys, thus providing rneons whereby a capstone may be molded directly onto the chimney.
A. further object is to provide device of this cherocter which will be simple, strong,
and durable in constructmn, eilicient in oporation, and wellsdspted to the purpose for which it is designed. v
W 1th the above end other obgects in view 2 5 the "invention consists ofcertsin novel features of construction, combinstion, and errengement of ports, as will be hereinafter de-- scribed and claimed.
in the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is .0 a plan View of the mold, c stone within the Fig. 2 is s vertical sectionel view of the mold on the line 2 2 01 Fig. 1, showing the insurer of applying the some to s chimney. Fig. 3 is e similar view of one'of 3 5 the end. pieces and the ends of the side pieces,
showing the construction of the end pieces and the manner of connecting the some with the side pieces, I Fig. 4 is a horizontal sectional View of one of the adjustable cores. Fig. 5 is el vertical sectional view on the line 5 5 of 4. 6 is detail sectional view of a. portion oi the mold, showing the arrange merit of the set'sciewicr holding the mold parts in their adjusted position and showing 4 5 the screw in locked position; and 7 is a.
similar View showing the screw in released position.
Referring-micro porticulznly to the drawings, 1 denotes the side pieces of the mold,
u hich are preferably l'orn'led of hollow metal having a. wooden or other suitsblo filling The side pieces are preferably formed on their loweifilmer side with o longitudinallydisposed ollset portion 3. The end pieces of the mold are constructed of hollow metallic tubes 4. and are formed in two sections which Specification of Letters Patent. Application 21911 January 22, 1906. Serial 1%. 297312.

are adopted to telescope into each other, thus permitting said ends to be lengthened or shortened. The ends are also provided on their lower inner side with longitudinally disposed offset portions 5. On each end of is secured means whereby the some may be attached to the side pieces.
Said attaching means is here shown and preferably consists of angle-irons 5, which are adapted to hook over the side pieces, and in the lower ends of said angle-irons is arranged s. clmnping scrcw 7, by means of which said ends are rigidly 'cle sped or connected to the side pieces. In order to hold the telescopic sections of the end pieces in their adjusted positions, a lockin device is provided. Said device may be c any suitable construction, but is here shown in the form of s set-screw 8, having a wedge-shaped offset-engaging head odapted to be engaged with the inner sides of the adjustable sections when the nut on said screw is screwed down, as clearly shown in Figs. 6 and 7 of the drawings.
The mold is provided with cores 9, which pieces are arranged and secured to the side pieces and adjusted to form, a frame which will snugly it upon the upper end of the chimney to be capped, end when so arrangng the mold-frame on the chimney the offset lower inner edges of the some will be engs ed .with the outer side well of the chimney t jacent to and l ring flush with the upper edge thereof, as clearly shown in Fig. 2 ofthe drawings. If desired, nails 10 or other devices may be inserted through the sides of the mold and into engagement with the top of the chimney, thus more securely supporting the hiold-frs1nenon the chimney. After the petite have been thus arranged the core is placed over the flue ol the chimney, and co ment or other plastic material forming the block will be pieced in the mold and firmly temps-d, thereby forming a solid capstone, which after the same has hardened and after the mold has been removed will afford an inexpensive and durable finish to the upper ends of the chimneys to take the place 0 the natural ezfipensive capstones which are sometion will be readily quiring a more extended explanation.
Various changes in the form, proportion, and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention as defined by the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
l. A mold comprising hollow metallic side pieces having formed on their inner lower sides an offset portion and provided witha filling, hollow metal end pieces formed in two sections adapted to telescope into each other to adjust the length of the same, i 1 :eW- clamps secured to the ends of said end pieces whereby the same may be adjustably conoperation of the inven nected to the side pieces of the mold, and a.
core-piece arranged within the 2. A mold comprising hollow metallic side ieces provided with a filling and having ormed on their lower inner sides anoffset portion, hollow metallic end pieces having similar oflset portions and formed in two sections adapted to telescope into each other to adjust their len th, means to hold said sections in their a justed positions, screwclamps secured to the outer ends of said sections whereby the same may be adjustabl connected to said side pieces, a core-blocli adapted to be arranged within said mold, and means whereby the size.
In testimony whereof I. have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.

of said core-block 'may be varied, substantially as described.
