SWIMMING-GLOVE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 8, 1906.
Application filed August 29, 1905. Serial No. 276,272.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MANUAL S. CHRIsTo-- PHER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Survey, in the county of Lee and State of Florida, have invented a new and useful Swimming-Glove, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to swimming-gloves.
The object of the invention is to provide a normal form of glove of the character described which -shall be lighty and durable, which when positioned upon the hand will be positively retained thereon, and which shall present an extended surface for contact with the Water.
With the above and other objects in view,
' as will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, vthe same consists in the novel construction and combination of parts of a swimmingglove, as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.
ln the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification, and in which like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts, the figure is a view in elevation of a swimming-glove constructed in accordance yitlli the present invention viewedfrom the The 'glove embodies e, body or wrist ortion l, a thumb 2, fingers 3, 4, 5, ang 6, thumb and finger bands or stalls 7, 8, 9, 10, and 1l, a reinforcing-band 12, and a web portion 13, which is connected to the thumb and gers in an preferred manner and presents a broad su ace for contact with the water. The body portion and thumb and fingers are by preference made of a webbing in order to permit free access of water to the hand, while the web 13 will preferably be made of a closewoven fabric or thin rubber.
The stalls 7 8, 9, 10, and 11 are located adjacent to the base ofthe thumb and of the fingers, respectively, and may be made of any suitable material, preferably of closelywoven fabric, and are secured to the thumb and fingers by rows of stitches 14. The reinforcing-band 12 may be made of any suitable material, preferably of closely-woven fabric, and is combinedewith the body of the glove by rows of stitches 15. The back of the wrist portion is divided for a portion of its length and is provided with eyelets 16, through which is threaded the lacing 17 for holdingv the glove tightly around the wrist, the mouth of the wrist being reinforced at 18 by a strip of fabric o r the like.
By the provision of the stalls and reinforcing-band 12 the connection between the web, which is secured to these parts, and the glove is rendered more durable and stable in character, so that it will the better withstand the strains to which it will-be subjected in use.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is-- A swimming-glove embodying a body lportion having a thumb and fingers, flexible re inforces disposed intermediate of the thumb, fingers and the body portion, and a web se,- cured to the thumb, fingers and reinforces.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
