TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CGNCERN:

Be it known that I, Ontvnn. VANonMAN, of ltipon, in the county of Food du Lao, in the State of Wisconsin, 'have invented a new and improved 'Spring-Seat for Vehicles; and I do hereby dcclare that lthe following is a full and exact description thereo't', reference being had to the accornpanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thcrcon. i

The nature of my invcmion consists in providing a seat, mounted upon two elevatcd woodcn bars, ono at or near each end of the seat, and fastened upon its under side, these ha'rs having their extreme lower ends resting upon corresponding bara or levcrs, placed just inside of' the wagon-box, parallel with its sides, and the bars upon which the seat'rests being sceured and hold in place, at their connections with the parallel bars, with a book and eye, or other suitable hinge or joint, making them removable whcnever dcsircd. Upon tbo under edges, and near the lower cnds of each of these scat-bars, are placed rubber springs, which rest upon the pak allel bars secured to the inner side and near the upper edge of the sidcs of'thc wagon-box, these Springs receiving the whole Weight of'the seat, and serving,r to relieve it l'ro-.n any Sudden jar er coneussion.

To enable others skilled in the art to make and use niy invention, I will proceed to dcscribe its construction and operation. i

I make the seat A in any of the conimonly-lznon'n forms, fastenii'ig it rigidly, with scren's or holts, to the upper bevlellcd onds of the woodcn bars or levers, marked B B, these bars cxtending downward'to just inside of the wagon-box, and are seeurcd by hooks and eyes C C, or other suitable attachments, to the upper ides of the parallel bars or levers, reprcscnted 'at D D. i

The rubher Springs E E are sccured into and near the lower onds of the seat-bnrs B'B, either by being made wedge-shaped, and let in groovcs or reeesses cut in these hars, or by being fastencd in any other substantial rnanncr. v i

The rubber Springs E E, being acted upon by con1pres'sien,'areinuch more durable and eilicient than others 1that yield only by stretching or extension, and in being placed under the olevated bars B B, they are almost n'hnlly protected from the well-known damaging effects of the weather upon rubbcr when exposed The operation of this seat is rcadily undcrstood, and the proper spring or clastieity is obtained, no't altogether from the rubber alone, but in part from the mode of adjustment with the books and eyes, and in the use of suitable woodcn bars or lcvers upon which the scat is placed,

The seat and its ,accessory lcvers or bars arc`all casily dctachcd and removcd from the wagon-box, when notrcqnired for use,

What I claim, is- I The arran'gement of the '(letachable seat, consisting of the clevateddevers or bars B B, with books and eyes C C, or equivalent devices, to the parallel bars D D, substantially as described. t

Also, the arrangement of rubber springsE E, fastencd near the lower ends and on the under sides 'of the elevated seat-bara B B, which rest upon the parallel bara or levers D D. i
