Be it known that I, A. B. SMITH, of Rochester, in the county of Beaver, and AState of Pennsylvania, have inventedan Improved Construction of Endless Platforms' 'for Cham-Powers.; nndI do hereby' declare tiret the following is a lull and exact description thereof, Ireference being` had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification-- Figure 1 beings. top vjew of ls. 'portion of the endless-platform driver, in the construction of whih my invention consists.
`Figure.2, an edge view of the same. Figure, a. bottom view of a portion thereof. Figure `4, a. side view o' it part detached. Like letters designatecorresponding parts'in all of the gures. The lags or cross-steps A A` of the endless revolving platform or track, are\ secured at the'two ends respecte ively to two flexible bands B B, preferably of leather orIndia-rubber belting,iwl1iel1 take the place of chains or conn'rioting-links, v
In order t'o give firmness and rigidity against sagging to this platform, I employ a. double series of eti`enerbraces or cleats, C C, onefor each lag, at each end, opposite tothe connecting-bands respectively. Each brace (as representedlis composed of metal, has e central eye, b, to receive a. rivet, c, whereby to attach it to tbelag, and two fingers a a, one projecting transversely one way, and the other in the opposite direction, each farenough to lap over upon the ndjacent lag, substantially as shown.' It is apparent that as these projecting lingers lie `close upon the snrfzice ofthe lags, it keeps them-in one-plane, exceptwhere theplati'orm bends inward, to
substantially as sho\vx`1 though their fornoV may very therefrom at pleasure, provided they accomplish the eiieet intended, es set forth. f
The slime rivet e which attaches abr-ace to the lng, may passalso through ,the connectngband, thusuniting all parts together. Where there is e. splice in the band, 's atf, there may be two 'eyes in tliebrace, to receive two rivets, 'as shown, and any number orallof the braces may heve double eyes if preferred. s The breces'maynbe cheaply made'of cast iron. A They are applicable to horse and other animal-powers, as well-as for the specified 'useV set forth, in. whichxthe power of dogs or other smell animals is employed for churnv ing and-.other light work." I v 7 '-Wh'at I claim ns my invention, and desire to "'sec'ure'by Letters Patent, is'
