Application filed September 20, 1905. Serial No. 279,271.
.To all whom it ma'yon'cern:
Be it known that I, JAMES H. RAND, a citizen of the United States, residing at Newtonville, in the county of Middlesex and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Wrappers for Salesmens Slips, & c., of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a filing-Wrapper I o for salesmens slips, bank-deposit slips, vouchers, and similar papers. 'Y
It' has for its robject to provide a folder or wrapper of lthis character having indexing means to facilitate reference to the same when :filed in a drawer or tray with a number of similar wrappers and also having a convenient fastening which ermits the ready insertion and removal of t 1e slips or papers.
In the accompanying drawings, consisting of two sheets Figure 1 is a perspective view of a number of theimproved wrappers placed in a drawer and represented as containing de` posit-slips. Fig. 2 vis a perspective View of one of the wrappers. Fig. 3 is a vertical sece 5 tion thereof, taken centrally ,through the fas-4r tening devices. Figs. 4 and 5 are peispective views of modified forms oi the wrapper.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views.'
3o e wra per consists of a sheet orstrip of stron an heavy paper, such as manila- ,board which is doubled to form front and rear walls or flaps A A and a bottom fold A". The rear wall Av is of sufficient' height to eX- tend above the front wall A and package of slips or otherpapers placed in the Wrap er, so as to form a tab or extension A, wine is adapted to bear a suitable index designation. For example, when the improvement is used in a bank awra per is employed for the deposit-slips of eac icustomer, in which case thev tabs 0r extensions A3 of the various wrappers receive the names ofthe respective depositors y as shown in Figs; 1 and 2, or all of the depositslips of the .same date may be filed in one wrapper, in whichcase its extension bears the corresponding date, as shown in Figs` 4 and 5.
As shown in Fig. 1, the wall of each wrapper terminates below the index, tab, orfextension ofthe rear wall number of the wrappers are placed upri ht, in a drawer, tray, or similar receptacleal of the-tabs project above the front walls of the wrappers and thede osit-slips, so that they 5 5 are ainly visible an permit ready reference to t e slips of'any Vgiven depositor or date.\
front, bottom, and back of' the wra A', so that when a To enable the wrappers to accommodate themselves to a greater or less Inumber of slips, the central portions of the blanks or sheets from which they are formed are scored or creased horizontall as shown at b, the Wrappers illustrated in the drawings having creases, y pfh in their front walls andtheir bottom y 0 s. i I
Any suitable'means may be employed for securely tyin the wrapper around the slips.-
The preferre means are shown in Figs. 1, 2, and 3 and consist of a cord C, having one end fastened tothe rearwall of the wrapper by an eyelet c and extending -forwardly over the i in the wrapper, 'the 7`o ackage of slips place ee end of the cord being wound around the neck of a button D, secured to the front wall l of the Wrapper near its upper edge. This button may consist of a head or Washer ap- 7 5 lied to the front end of a hollow rivetor eye et d', as shown in Fig. 3. The rear en'd of the fastenin -cord is secured lbetween the rear flan e o the eyelet c and the adjacent side of t e wra per, as seen in Fig. 3, and passes forward y through the eyelet. By this construction the 'strain on the cordis exerted more on the-edge of the eyelet than-at the pointwhere the end o the cord is fas tened, producing a more reliable attachment. The comparatively large openin of the eyelet also ermits alittle play off 51e cord, enabling t e wrapper to accommodate itself to the shght difference or variation inthe width ofthe slips. l'
In the modified .construction shown in Fig. 4.a asteIng-cord C extends around the per and is tiedron the front side ofthe same, t e cord be#- ing passed into a slite cut in the upper edge -95' of the rear wall. M Fig. 5 shows another modification in which' the binding-cord consists'of a rubber 4band Cf' which is confined in an 'opening j, forme slit f extending from the opening to t per edge of said wall for inserting theband.
Instead of providin the rear wall of- 'the wrapper with a reduce tab-likeextension A* the same may be of the same width through- 5195 out ltsheight, as shown in Figs. 4 and 5, it"
only being essential that the rearwvall.shal` extend far enough above the front wall and' the package of shps to expose the index designations on the same.-
Inthe use of the wrappers aA number of the same with the slips therein are placed in'I the drawer orreroptur-lv ,i either vllt'oiiologiwtily or in tht itlphaht-timil order of thv mimos on thvvv slips. luy wrztpptir cath thus he rttztthlj;
