Description
DUMONT MAREAU, OF HUBBARDSTOWN, MASSACHUSETTS,
Letters Patent No. 81,282, dated August 18, 1868. l
IMPROVBD EASY- GHAIR.
@he Sila-hule riferiti tu iu tlgcse @titers atent mit mating part at tigesmile.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONGERN:
Be it-known that I, DUMONT MAREAU, of Hnbbardstown, in the county of Worcester, and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and improved Easy-Chair; and I do hereby declare that the followingis a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable those skilled in the art to make and use'the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this speciication.
This invention has reference to that class of chairs, the bottom or seats ofnwhieh rest on springs, in such manner that a rocking motion may be obtained thereby.
And it consists in attaching the scat to two or more springs, and in connecting it with the legs or rails of the chair by links which form joints, whereby great elastieityand exibility' are obtained, as will be hereinafter more fully described. s
Figure 1 represents a side elevation of a chair with the seat connected according to my invention.
Figure 2 is a front elevation of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A represents the seat ofthe chair.
B is the back. A
C represents the-rails, and
D the legs.
E represents the springs, and
F the links. t
The springs are attached to the bottom ot' the seat in any suitable manner, and they may be formed double, as seen in the drawing, or they may be made in separate pieces, or each by itself, and four or n xore may be used.
The springs may be lat, as represented, or spiral, or in any other form, tho lower end of each being formed so as te nnitc with a link, substantially as seen in the drawing.
The links F are attached to the springs, and to hooks which are securely fastened to the legs or rails of the chair.
g represents-the hooks.
By` hanging the seat of'thc chair in this manner, all rigidity is avoided, and a. soft and easy motion is obtained.
This connection-allows ofthe same motion to the-occupant of the ordinary roeking-chair without the objecltionable rockers, and the joint 7L formed by th'e'link-eonneetion gives all the elasticity and flexibility required.
Having thus described my invention, I claiui as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The springs E, arranged' as described, in combination with the seat A, rails C, links F, and hooks g, substantially asset forth for `the purpose specified.
DUMONT MAREAU.
