IIPRQVED SPRING WAG-QN-SEAT.
The Schedule referred to 1n these Letters Patent and making part of the name To all 'whom z't may concern Be it known that I, PETER Burmese, of Braidwood, ,in the county of Will, and 'State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Spring Wagon-Scat; and I do hereby declare thatthe following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings making part ot' this specification and to the letters ot' reference marked thereon, like letters indicating like parts wherever they occur.
To enable others skilled in theart to construct and use my irrveution, I will proceed to describe it.
Figure l is the end elevation, and
Figure '2 is the front elevation of the seat.
' .'lhe nature of my invention consists in supporting the wagon-seat by pivoting braces, connecting the said braces at the lower endby xed cross-pieces, by
India-rubber or other elastic straps, rings, or other similar fixtures, as will be hereinafter fully explained.
A is the wagon-seat, underneath and near each end of which are secured pieces a a, so spaced as to allow the upper ends ot' braces B B to freely move between them. The lxtnre may consist of two pieces, or of one grooved.
The said pieces a c are provided lengthwise with horizontal slits s s.
B B are the braces, provided at the upper end that move between the pieces aI a, with pins, b b, setting and moving in the slits s s, which pins, in order to diminish friction, may be providediwith small rollers. The braces are pvoted ,at about their middle to stays, O C, secured tirrnly t9 the boa-rd D, their ends extending below the board so as to tit astride the side board ot' the wagon or'r which the seat is to be used.
The lower ends of the braces B B, and the ends of the boards D- D are provided with notches, or otherwise arranged, and connected by India-rubber or other elastic straps, E E, rings or other' similar fixtures, the notches having the purpose of keeping.: said straps or rings in proper place after they are aixed.
When used, the seat is put on the wagon so as to have the ends of the stays U C to stride over the side boards of said wagon, the elastic straps or rings giving springiness to the seat A when a weight is placed on in driving.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Let.-
ters Patent, is-
Thc comhinatiorr of the seat with t-lre slotted bar l a, levers B pivoted to the standards O, and secured by the springs F to the bar D, all constructed and arranged to operate as described.
