Be it known that I, AN'roNE F. WARELE, a citizen of the United States, residing at J ackson, in the county of Jackson and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Loop-Shields; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

This invention relates to new and useful improvements in loop-shields for straps of various kinds; and the object of the invention is to produce a simple and eflicient device which may be readily applied to straps which have loops therein to take up wear which comes upon the portion of the strap which is bent upon itself.

More specifically my invention consists in a plate which has integral lugs projecting from the ends and from the middle portion thereof which are adapted to be bent about the edges of straps to hold the plate in the loop of the strap and receive the wear incident to the ring, buckle, or other attachment connected to the loop.

My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which, with the letters of reference marked thereon, form a part of this application, and in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a loop, showing my loop-shield as attached thereto. Fig. 2 is a cross-sectional view on line 2 2 of Fig. 1, and Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail view of one of the plates detached from the strap and illustrating the shape of the same before being bent to conform to the loop of a strap.

Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates a strap which is bent to form a loo B for various purposessuch as reins, ho dbacks, &c. and O is a loop-shield plate made of metal and bent substantially U-shaped and having two parallel portions and provided with lugs D, projecting from the longitudinal edges thereof, said lugs being bent over the outer faces of the plate. The outer edges of said lugs are flush with the ends of the plate, and lugs E project from the edges of the plate at its longitudinal center and are bent to form angled hooks extending over the central portion of the shield, with spaces on either side of said lugs E and the op osite parallel portions of the shield. Said liigs E are adapted to form bearings for the ring K, which is held by the loop.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

A loop-shield made of a single piece of metal bent substantially U-shaped, lugs projecting from the longitudinal edges of said shield and bent over the outer faces thereof with their outer edges flush with the ends of the shield, lugs projecting from the edges of the plate at its longitudinal center and bent to form angled hooks extending over the bent portion of the shield, with spaces on either side of said lugs which project from the center of the shield, and the oppositeparallel walls of the latter, as set forth.
