HALTER BOLIT CLIP.
No. 399,788. Patented Mar. 19, 1889.
INVENTOR,
wwusssss:
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHRISTIAN O. SOHIVANER, OF IVINTERSET, IOIVA.
HALTER BOLT-CLI P.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 399,788, dated March 19, 1889.
Application filed April 16, 1888.
To all whom, it may concern Be it known that I, CHRISTIAN C. SOHWAN- ER, of lVinterset, county of Madison, State of Iowa, have invented or discovered a new and useful Improvement in HalterBolt-Clips; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, concise, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making a part of this specification, in whichlike letters indicating likeparts The object of my invention is to provide a halter bolt-clip for use in the construction and repairing of halters, as well as for other purposes-as, for instance, it would be equally useful for attaching straps to buckles and rings and cockeyes to traces; but its chief object is--as indicated by the name I have given it to strengthen an d re-enforce a halter at the point which usually wears out first that is, at the lower end of the bolt-piece,where the ring is attached for the chin-strap. This is a part difficult to repair when broken, requiring a great deal of time and labor to make a good piece of work, so that it has heretofore been cheaper, as a rule, to throw away the bolt-piece entirely than to attempt to repair it, while with the use of my improved clip the broken piece can be simply cut off and used again.
The invention consists in the construction and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 shows a portion of the halter to which is attached my improvement. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the halter bolt-piece, and showing more in detail the mode of attaching the clip.
Fig. 3 shows the under side of the bolt piece Serial No. 270,822. (No model.)
and clip, which is shown in side elevation in Fig. 2. Fig. 4 shows the halter bolt-clip, disconnected from the halter bolt-piece.
Referring to the drawings, the letter A represents my improved clip, having a single extension-plate, D, provided with perforations (1 CF. The outer end of said plate is bifurcated, as shown at cl, and extends into the body of the plate and is bent into hooks d (1, the free ends of which are parallel with the extension-plate, to form a space between the said hooks and plate, whereby the hooks are adapted to receive and hold a double-headed bolt, C, which embraces a ring, B, to secure it in the said bifurcated end. The end of the strap a, confined in the space between the hooks and the extension-plate, is bifurcated, as shown at 6, so as to permit the portions at each side to set well up against the bolt to prevent rattling and consequent wear, the ring B setting in the opening formed by the bifurcations of-the clip and strap, as shown in Fig. 3.
Having described my invention, what I claim is The combination, with the clip, bifurcated and bent into hooks at one end, of the ring and headed bolt secured in the bifurcated and hooked portion of the clip, and the bifurcated strap having the ends of the bifurcated portion setting well up against the bolt, to prevent rattling and wear, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand.
CHRISTIAN O. SGHIVANER.
