s. E. BURGHDORP.
SPRING CLASP FOR HORSE UQLLARS.
Patented Dec. 23, 1884.
ATTORNEYS.
WITNESSES UNTTED STATES STEPHEN E. BURGHDORF,
7 M KE.
FPATENT OF GENEVA, NE\V YORK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 309,759, dated December 23,1884.
Application filed October 14, 1884.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, STEPHEN EDsoN BURGE- DORF, of Geneva, in the county of Ontario and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Spring-Clasp for Horse-Collars, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention has for its object to provide a practical elasping device to take the place of straps and buckles on horse-collars, whereby the collar may be easily put upon and removed from the horse; and the invention consists of the construction, arrangement, and combination of parts, all as hereinafter de scribed and claimed.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicatecorresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 shows my invention applied to a horsecollar. Fig. 2 is a broken plan view of the clasp removed from the collar; and Figs. 3 and at are front elevations of the parts of the clasp. I
My new collar-clasp is composed of the three main plates A, 13, and O. The plates A and B are adapted to be riveted or otherwise secured to the pads D E of the collar, and the plate A is a plain plate, while the plate B is flanged at d, and provided with the spring hooks F, that reach through the slots f, made in the flanged. The plate 0 is flanged at g to correspond with the flange d of plate B, and it is formed with the diagonal side plates 6 c, and is secured upon the plate A by the screws a a, that pass through the slots 0 0, so that by loosening the screws a the plate 0 may be adjusted for fitting the collar to the horses neck. The flange g is slotted at 71 to correspond with the slots f in the flange d, and the said slots h are so formed as to form the lips or projections b, with which the hooks F are adapted to engage, as shown in Fig. 2, for locking the parts of the clasp together. The parts of the clasp being secured in proper position to the parts D E of the collar to secure the collar upon the horses neck, it is only necessary to bring the parts -D E forcibly together, which will cause the spring-hooks F to automatically engage with the lips I). The side flanges, e 6, when the parts of the collar are so brought together, serve as guides to cause the hooks F to enter the slots h, so as to properly engage with the lips I). The flanges (No model.)
d g are correspondingly cut away ate '5 to form recesses for receiving and holding in place the hame-straps of the harness, so that they will always be held central to the collar and clasp.
To remove the collar having my clasp from the horses neck, it is only necessary to disengage the spring-hooks F from the projections b, which can be very easily and quickly done, so that by the use of my clasp time is saved both in putting the collar upon and in removing it from the horse, and, besides this, the clasp is cheap, durable, and practical for its purpose.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A clasp for horsecollars, consisting of the plates B 0, one provided with springllOOliS and the other formed with lips or projections b and the diagonal or curved guideplates e, substantially as described.
2. In a clasp for horse-collars, the plates B 0, one provided with spring-hooks F and ad justabl y connected to a plate, A, and the other formed with lips or projections b and diagonal or curved guideplates c, substantially as and for. the purpose set forth.
3. In a clasp for horse-collars, the plates B 0, one provided with spring-hooks F and the other provided with lips or projections b and diagonal or curved flanges or plates 6, said plates having coincident openings or recesses L, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
4. The plate 0, formed with the lips b, in combination with the plate B, provided with the spring-hooks F, substantially as and for the purpose described.
5. The plate 0, formed with the flange g and lips I), and slotted at h, in combination with the plate B, formed with the flange d and slots f, and provided with the springhooks F, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
6. In a clasp for horse-collars, the plates B 0, one provided with spring-hooks F and the other provided with lips or projections 12, said plates having flanges cl 9, provided with coincident openings or recesses i, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
