Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 30, 1906.
Application filed May 3i 1905. Serial No. 258,668.
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, CLARENCE F. RODGERS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Conneaut, in the county of Ashtabula and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Collar-Buttons, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has for its object to devise a novel form of collar-button which will prevent movement of the necktie after the same has been properly adjusted, the button having a spur foldable with reference to its head to admit of the spur being projected to engage with the necktie or to be withdrawn, so as to be out of the way.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a detail view of a collar-button embodying my invention, part of the head being broken away. Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the spur projected. Fig. 3 is a plan view of the button-head in Fig. 1.
' Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawings by the same reference characters.
Referring to the drawings, 6 designates the head of the collar-button, and 7 the shank thereof. The head 6 is provided with a slot 9, formed in its outer face, and a spur 8 is movable or pivoted and operates in the said slot, as shown. A pin 10 pivotally connects the spur 8 to the head 6. The pivotal end or butt of the spur 8 is provided with two faces 11 and 12, which, in conjunction with a spring-plate 13, holds the spur either closed, as shown in Fig. 1, or projecting, as illustrated in Fig. 2. The spring 13 constitutes the plate generally employed for closing the rear side of the head.
When not required for immediate use the spur 8 may be pressed or moved inwardly at its outer end, so as to lie flush with the plane of the said slot, as illustrated in Fig. 1, and in this position it is held retracted by the action of the spring-plate 18 against the straight edge or face 12. When the spur is desired for use, it is turned outwardly, as shown in Fig. 2, and is then held projected by the spring-plate 13 exertinga pressure against the other straight edge or face 11.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is As a new article of manufacture a collarbutton provided with a head, a spring-plate forming a closure for the rear face of said head and the latter being provided on its outer face with a slot and a spur pivoted to said head within the slot and provided on its butt-end with two faces set at an obtuse angle with relation to each other and designed to bear against the spring-closure for the rear face of the head, whereby said closure may hold said spur either flush with the plane of said slot or protruded therefrom according against which face of said spur the closure bears.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
