FASTENER FOR GLOVES AND OTHER ARTIGBBS.
N0.'270 ,019. Patented Jan. 2, 1883.
N. PETERS, Flwtn-Ulhoguphen Wanhinglun, 04;.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.-
ALFRED N. COHEN, or NEW YORK, N. Y.
F'ASTENER FOR GLOVES'AND OTHER ARTICLES.
SPECIFICATION forming part'of Letters Patent No. 270,019, dated January 2, 1883.
Application filed November 7,1882. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALFRED N. COHEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Fastener for Gloves. and Similar Articles, of which the following is a specification. I
The object of my invention is to providea fastener 'lor gloves and'similar articles made in one piece, adapted to be placed on one side ofthe'openingand permanently attached thereto, and arranged to fasten the glove tion with the ordinary button-hole.
The invention consists in a fastener composed of a shank having at one end a device for connecting it with the glove and at the opposite end a button pivoted to the shank, so that it can be turned against the shank for the purpose of passing it edgewise through the buttoii-hole, and at right angles to the shank for the purpose offastening itself inthe button-hole. y
it also consists in the construction of the button and shank and the devices for holding them together, which will be specifically described hereinafter.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a glove with my improved fastener applied to it; Fig. 2, a section of the same taken on line a: a], showing the manner of attaching it to the glove. Fig. 3 represents a side view, and Fig. 4 an edge view, of the fastener. Figs. 5, 6, 7, and 8 are detailed views which the button can be turned of parts of the fastener; and Fig. 9 is an enlarged sectional view of the fastener, showing its construction. i
Referring to the drawings, A is the shank of the fastener, having at one end a disk, at, and tubular rivet b. At the opposite end or top it is provided with a slot, 0, and one side of the said slot is provided with an opening, (I. The top of the shank is squared oli', as plainly shown in Fig. 9. The button B is connected with the shank A by means of a loop, 6, through which the partsf, forming the top ofthe shank, are passed, so as to form a kind of pivot, on sidewise to a in connec position either at'right angles to the shank, or nearly parallel to the same. The button is composed of a cap-plate, g, in the concave under side of which is placed a plate, It, and a spring-plate, l, which is held between the sides of the slot in the collet 7c. The loop 6 projects downward from the collet, and the top of the shank bears against the spring-plate '1 The fastener is connected with the side of the glove-opening by passing. its tubular rivet b through the same and riveting its end against the under side of the part of the glove, to which it is attached; or, if preferred. a washer, I, may be passed over the tubular rivet, after the latter is passed through the glove, and then riveted againstthe washer, so that the glove will be clamped between the disk at and washer l, as shownin Fig. 2.
The button can be turned sidewise in either direction on its pivot, and the springt' holds it in place. Then the button is turned to a position at right angles to the shank the spring 2' presses on the square top of the shank and holds the button firmly in place. I
To connect the loop a with the shank it i passed edgewise through the opening d.
' I claim-- 1. As an improved article of manufacture, a fastener for gloves and similar articles com posed of the shank A, having a device, substantially as described, for permanently attaching it to the glove, and a button, B, pivotally attached to the shank, substantially as shown.
for the same, composed of the shank A, permanently attached to one side of the opening in the glove, and the button B, pivotallywattached to the shank, substantially as set forth.
3. The shank 'A, provided with the slot 0, 'openingd, and partsf, in combination with the collet It, provided with the loop 0, and suitable substantially as described.
