Description
' PATBNTED JAN. 23,.1906.
R. J. GUMINGS.
( CURTAIN HANGER.
APPLICATION FILED SEPT. 11 1905.
UNITED STATES PATENT o FIoE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 23, 1906.
Application filed September 11, 1905. Serial No. 278,069.
To all whom it nasty concern: i
Be it known that ILREBBEOOA JANE CUM- INGS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Greersville, in the county of Knox and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Curtain-Hangers; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention is an improved curtainhanger by means of which a curtain may be either draped or hung across the window or may be turned out of the'way and disposed at the sides of the window at will.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a curtain-hanger embodying my improvements. Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the same, showing a different position in which the curtain may be placed by means of my improved hanger. Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view taken on the plane indicated by the line 3 3 of Fig. 2.
My improved window-curtain hanger comprises a bar 1, a pair of end pieces 2, and a pair of curtain-supporting arms 3. The bar 1 is secured by suitable supporting-brackets L a or other suitable devices at the top of the window and in such position as to clear the usual window-shade b. The end pieces 2 are connected to the ends of the bar 1 by means of hinges 4 and are adapted to be extended longitudinally in line with the bar 1 or to be turned at right angles thereto. The curtainsupporting arms 3 have their inner ends connected to the respective end pieces by means of hinges 5, so that when the end pieces are at right angles to the bar 1 said arms may be turned to a position parallel with said bar, so as to dispose the curtains across the window, or may be turned at right angles to said bar, so as to move the curtains away from the window and support the curtains at right angles to the window and at the sides thereof out of the way. The arms 3 are provided on 3 their inner sides with hooks 6 for the attachment of the curtains. hooks 7 on their inner sides to secure the outer edges of the curtain thereto, and the arms 3 are provided at their free ends with chains or other suitable devices 8, which may be ornamented and depend from said arms and serve to enable them to be readily turned to the required positions. Stop devices 9 project from the outer side of the bar 1 to contact with the arms 3 when the latter are parallel with the bar 1 to maintain said arms in such parallel relation.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A window-curtain fixture comprising a bar, means to detachably secure the same to a window, end pieces pivotally connected to the bar, and curtain-supporting arms pivotally connected to the end pieces, for the purpose set forth.
2. The herein-described window-curtain fixture, comprising the bar 1, the bracket 0. to detachably secure said bar to and space The end pieces have the same from a window, the end pieces pivotally connected to the bar, and the curtainsupporting arms pivotally connected to the end pieces.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing wit.
nesses.
REBBECCA JANE CUMINGS. I
Witnesses:
