HORSE-BLANKET PIN.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 9, 1906.
Application filed June 9, 1905. Serial No. 264,491.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, Mnnwrn L. JAooBY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Canton, in the county of Stark and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Im provements in Horse-Blanket Pins; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the figures of reference marked thereon, in which Figure l is a perspective view of the blanketholder pin, showing a trace in position to be attached to the holder and the blanket proper connected to the pin. Fig. 2 is a perspective View of the pin, showing a trace properly attached thereto. Fig. 3 is a side elevation showing the pin open. p
The present invention has relation to horseblanket pins; and it consists in the novel construction hereinafter described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
Similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures of the drawings.
In the accompanying drawings, 1 represents the shank, which is formed of any desired length, one end of which shank is bent to form the loop 2, the metal of which is continued to produce the pin 3. The opposite end of the shank 1 is provided with the loop 4, from which loop extends the pin-retaining point guard-loop 5, said loop consisting of two members, one of which is continued from the loop 4 and the other member passed through said loop and continued to form the open coil 6, the wire of said coil being continued to form the spring-shank 7 In use the pin 5 is first placed in the position shown in Fig. 3 and is inserted through the blanket or connected to the blanket and the pointed end of said pin engaged with the loop 5, said loop being so formed that it will hold the pin and at the same time protect the point of said pin. The spring-shank 7 is spaced a short distance from the shank l and is so spaced for the purpose of providing a means for inserting the trace 8 or any other part of the harness between said spring-shank 7 and the shank 1.
It will be understood that by providing the loop or open coil 2 and the loop or open coil 6 I am enabled to provide a spring-actuated pin and a spring-actuated shank or clamp memher and by continuing the metal from the loop 4 and forming the pin-retaining point guardloop 5 by doublingback the wire and fastening the doubled-back portion thereof through the loop 4. I am enabled to provide a comparatively rigid guard and pin-holding loop, and by forming the bends 9 between the extreme outer end of the pin-retaining guard-loop 5 and the loop 4 the members of said loop will be brought to such a position that the pin will be firmly held in position and at thesame time the point properly guarded.
It will be understood that in order to release the pin-point end of the pin 3 it is necessary to press the pointed end of said pin toward the shank 1, thereby releasing the free end of the pin from its guard. It will also be understood that the entire device is to be formed of a single piece of wire consisting, essentially, of open-coiled loops, a shank, a pin, its holding-loop and a spring clamp or shank, which spring clamp or shank is preferably provided with the bent or doubledback portion 10, thereby forming the free end of the spring shank or clamp so as not to present a sharp exposed end.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
As an improved article of manufacture, a horse-blanket pin constructed of a single piece of wire and comprising a shank, spring-coiled loops one located upon the shank and the other located at the base of aspring-shank and the spring-shank extended therefrom, a pin extended from the spring-coil formed upon the shank, a pin-holding guard-loop adapted to hold and guard the point of the pin, said loop consisting of two members, one continued from the second spring-coiled loop and the other member passing through said loop, all arranged substantially as and for the purpose specified.
, In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
MEDWIN L. JACOBY.
