COMBINATION TRAVELING CASE AND SALES TABLE.
APPLICATION FILED MAYZZ. 1905.
NATHAN M. BARR, OF NEW' YORK, N. Y.
COMBINATION TRAVELlNG-CASE AND SALES-TABLE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 26, 1905.
Application filed May 22,1905. Serial No. 261,613.
To @ZZ whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, NATHAN M. BARR, a
citizen of the United States, residing in New York, in the borough of Brooklyn and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combination Traveling-Cases and Sales-Tables, of which the following is a specification. 'This invention relates to an improved traveling or other case which is intended for the use of tourists, peddlers, shoe-blacks, and others and which combines the advantages of a traveling-case for packing and storing the articles with a sales-stand, combining a seat, table, sunshade, tc., for exposing the articles for sale, the table, sunshade, ctc., being placed in the case after use and for this purpose the invention consists of a combined traveling-case and sales-stand comprising a case, a detachable frame in said case composed of endwalls and corner-stays, a detachable standard supported on one of the stays, a detachable table supported on the standard, and a sunshade, also supported on the standard above the table.
The invention consists, further, of certain details of construction, which will be hereinafter described, and nally pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l represents a perspective view of my improved traveling-case shown in position for use as a sales-stand with table and sunshade supported by the same. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the traveling-case with the supporting-standard for the table in position thereon. Fig. 3 is a vertical transverse section on line 3 3, Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a horizontal section on line 4 4, Fig. l, drawn on a larger scale; and Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the supporting-standard shown as detached from the case.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the different iigures of the case is reinforced by a detachable frame composed of end walls d, which are connected at the corners by stays d, that are made of wood, steel tubing, or other suitable material, so as to reinforce the end walls of' the frame and the end walls of the body a and impart sufficient strength to theK latter for permitting the use of the traveling-case as a seat when the same is placed in upright position, so as to rest on its end, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2. In line with one of the cornerstays is arranged in one of' the end walls an opening o, so as to permit the insertion of the lower end of an upright standard e into the tubular end of one of the stays d. The standard c is provided near its lower end with an outwardly-bent U-shaped part e', so that the standard itself is offset somewhat and can be moved out of the plane of the travelingcase to give the full end wall for seating purposes. The upper end of the standard e is provided with a horizontal portion c2, which is bent integrally with the standard into oval or circular shape, as shown clearly in Figs. 2 and 5. The horizontal portion e2 of the standard e serves for supporting two perforated cross-strips of sheet metal f, said strips being supported at right angles to each other on the horizontal portion e2 for the purpose of supporting a table g, as shown in Fig. l, said table being provided with a center hole for this purpose. The table is preferably provided with arim and serves for the purpose of placing the articles that are to be sold on the same, the rini retaining them on the table and preventing their dropping off from the same.
` The traveling-case a', with the table supported thereon, forms a sales-stand for the peddler for sellinghis wares, while the case itself is used as a seat when the standard and table are placed in position thereon. When the stand thus obtained is exposed to the sun,
a sunshade h is used by inserting the upper end e3 of the standard into the tubular end of the stick 7L of the sunshade h, as shown in Fig. 1. The sunshade on being folded up can either be carried in the hand or placed into the traveling-case, in which case the stick has to be of a less length than the length of the case. YVhen the days work is done, the sunshade, table, and standard are removed and replaced with the unsold wares into the case, which is then closed, so as to be conveniently carried.
The standard, table, and sunshade formv with the case` a sales-stand which can be used by peddlers and others for selling small articles of merchandise or by bootblacks for storing their implements or by tourists and others, as it combines the advantages of a seat, table, and sunshade with the conven- IOO IIO
ience of a case for storing all these articles when going to or returning from the place of use.
Having thus described niy invention, I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. The combination with a traveling-case, 0f a detachable frame the end walls of which are reinforced by corner-stays, a standard supported on one of said stays, and a table supported on said standard.
2. The combination with a traveling-case,
of a detachable frarne provided with end walls and supporting-stays for said end walls, a standard inserted into one of said stays and provided with a horizontal portion, and a table supported on said horizontal portion.
8. The combination with a traveling-case, of a detachable franie with reinforced end walls and corner-stays, a standard inserted into one of the corner-stays, said standard being provided with a bent horizontal portion, cross-strips supported on said horizontal portion, and a table supported on said strips.
4. The combination with a traveling-case, of a detachable fraine having reinforced end walls, corner-stays for said end walls, a detachable standard inserted into one of said stays, a table supported on said standard, and a sunshade also supported on the standard above the table.
5. The combination with a travelingecase, of a detachable franie provided with reinforced end walls and stays between said end walls, a detachable standard supported at its lower end in one of the stays, the lower part 0f the standard being provided with a horizontally-bent portion, and a table supported thereon.
6. The combination witha'traveling-case, of a detachable franie composed of reinforced end walls and corner-stays for said end walls, one of said stays being tubular, and one of the end walls of the case being` provided with an opening in line with the tubular cornerstay for inserting` the lower end of a tablesupporting standard.
In testimony that I claiin the foregoing as niy invention I have signed niy naine in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
NATHAN M. BARR.
