UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SUSPENDERS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 12, 1905.
Application led August 3, 1905. Serial No. 272,567.
To all wir/071e t may concern:
Be it known that I, FRED DRAPER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Danville, in the county of Vermilion and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Im provements in Suspenders; and I do declare the following to be f-ull, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. f
My invention relates to improvements in Suspenders for trousers; and it consists in the novel construction, combination, and arrangement of devices hereinafter described and claimed.
The object of the inventionl is to provide a pair of Suspenders of this character in which the usual cord runs over pulleys, so that the greatest ease and comfort is secured to the wearer.
rlfhe above and other objects are attained by means of the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a rear elevation of a pair of suspenders embodying my improvements. Fig. 2 is a detail sectionalview taken on the plane indicated by the line 2 2 in Fig. 1,' and Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the rear hanger.
Referring to the drawings by numeral, l denotes the shoulder-straps-of my improved Suspenders, which may be of any desired construction and which have at their ends antifriction devices 2 in the form of grooved pulleys, which are mounted or journaled in plates 3. The latter may be secured to the ends of the straps l in any suitable manner, and the ones upon the front ends of said straps have their front or upper portions hinged, as at 4f, so that they may be swung open to permit the cords 5 to be engagedwith and removed from said pulleys. These cords, which may be of elastic or any other material, are of the usual form and have eyes 6 at their ends'to engage the buttons on the front of the trousersband. The pulleys 2 upon the rear ends of the straps l are engaged by a similar cord or strap 7, which is passed about aseries of rollers or other antifriction devices 8, mounted upon a hanger 9. This strap or cord 7 is in the form of an endless band, and at suitable points are eyes lO, which are adapted to engage the buttons upon the rear of the trousersband. The pulleys 8 are grooved similarly to the pulleys 2 and are journaled between the ends of the arms 11 of the hanger 9, which latter is in the form of an X-shaped plate. as clearly shown in Fig. 3 of the drawings.
The engagement of the cord 7 with the pulleys 8 and 2 will be readily seen upon reference to Fig. l of the drawings, and it will be noted that owing to the provision of these antifriction devices 8 and their peculiar arrangement the greatest ease and comfort will be given to the wearer. The cords and pulleys will yield and slide with every movement of the body, the pulleys reducing friction, and hence wear, and the elasticity of the cords permitting the parts to yield sufficiently to remove all strain.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without a more extended explanation.
Various changes in the form, proportion, and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The herein-described Suspenders comprising the shoulder-straps, the pulleys attached to the front ends thereof, the cords engaging said pulleys, the pulleys attached to therear ends of the shoulder-straps, the hanger comprising the pair of X-shaped plates, the pulleys mounted for revolution between said plates at the outer ends of the arms thereof,
and the endless cord engaging the pulleys at FRED DRAPER.
