Description
No. 750,990. PATENTED FEB. 2, 1904.
H. G. MAGWILLIAM.
SUSPENDERS.
APPLICATION FILED JUNE 20, 1902.
N0 MODEL.
UNITED STATES Patented February 2, 1904.
PATENT OFFICE.
SUSPENDERS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 750,990, dated February 2, 1904.
Application filed June 20, 1902. Serial No. 112,420. (No model.)
To all whom, it may con/067%:
Be it known that I, HUGH G. IVIACWILLIAM, a subject of the King of Great Britain and Ireland, residing at New Rochelle, in the county of WVestchester and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Suspenders, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in suspenders, and particularly in that form of suspenders in which the shoulder-straps are connected with the trousers by sliding cords, its object being to provide a construction in which the strain upon the shoulders will be equalized both in the forward bending of the body and in the relative movement of the shoulders, as in bending from side to side.
To this end my invention consists in the construction and combination hereinafter more particularly described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, Figure 1 represents a pair of suspenders embodying my invention,
and Fig. 2 is a detail of a modified construction of cast-0H adapted to be used in connection with my invention.
In the drawings, A represents a pair of shoulder-straps carrying at their rear ends guides 2, through which passes the cord B, said guides preferably having hinge-support 3. The cord B passes through guides 1 and 5, projecting outwardly from the top and sides of an elastic band 6, said band being preferably provided with an adjusting-buckle 7 From the lower guides 5 the cordB passes to guides 8, having, preferably, hinge connection 9 with one of the front trousers-tabs 10, the cord B passing from the guide 8 through a guide 11, carried by the forward end of the adjacent shoulder-strap, the extreme end of the cord B being formed into a button-loop 12. A button-cord 13 is slidably supported by a guide 14, projecting downwardly from the elastic band 6, said cord being formed at its lower ends with button-loops 15 to receive the rear trousers-buttons.
In Fig. 2 is illustrated a modified construction of connection between the cord B and the front ends of the shoulder-straps. This consists of a hook 16, projecting downwardly from the front end of each shoulder-strap and adapted to pass through a ring 17, secured to a loop 18.
It is obvious that various modifications may be made without departing from the principle of my invention, the scope of which is defined in the claims.
Having now described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure'by Letters Patent, is
1. In a pair of suspenders, the combination, with the shoulder-straps, of an independent band, a cord having means for connection at its ends with the front ends of the shoulderstraps and with the front of the trousers, and intermediately having sliding connection with the rear ends of the shoulder-straps and with the top and sides of said band, and independent means for detachably connecting the bottom of said band with the rear of the trousers.
2. In a pair of suspenders, in combination with separated shoulder-straps, a band, a cord having sliding connection at its ends with the front ends of the shoulder-straps and means for detachable connection with the front of the trousers, said cord centrally having sliding connection with the rear ends of the shoulder-straps and the top and sides of said band, and a cord having sliding connection with the bottom of said band, and means for detachable connection with the adjacent portion ofthe trousers.
3. In a pair of suspenders, in combination with separated shoulder-straps, a band, guides carried by the rear and front ends of said shoulder-straps, a guide centrally supported above said band, laterally extending guides upon the upper and lower ends of said band, a cord running through all said guides and having means for detachable connection at its ends with the trousers, a downwardly-extending guide carried by said band, and a cord running through said guide, and having means for detachable connection with the adjacent portion of the trousers.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
HUGH Gr. MAC W ILLIAM.
Witnesses:
H. S. JOHNSON, EMILY EASTMAN.
