Description

PATENTED'NOV. 21, 1905.
./TN E5$ v INVENTO 5? M 57 Home UNITED STATES PATENT I OFFICE.
WILLIAM FREEMAN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR TO HARRIS SUSPENDER COMPANY, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
SUSPENDERS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 21, 1905.
Application filed February 7, 1905. Serial No. 244,593.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, WILLIAM FREEMAN, a resident of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Suspenders, Braces, &c.; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in suspenders, braces, and the like, and more particularly to an improved arrangement or disposition of the webbing or tape in suspenders, braces, &c., which will permit of a wide range of adjustment and always present a neat and finished appearance to the article at all adjustments, the object of the invention being to improve upon the construction disclosed in Patent No. 775,749, granted to me November 22, 1904; and the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts, as will be more fully hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective View illustrating one form of my invention. Fig. 2 isa view in longitudinal section thereof; and Fig. 3 is a view in longitudinal section, illustrating another form of the device.
1 represents the suspender webs or straps; 2, the adjusting slides or buckles thereon having loops 3 and rollers 4 on said loop portion to reduce friction and consequent wear of the webbing.
5 represents a suspender-end cast-01f having a metal loop 6 at its upper end; but I do not restrict myself to the use of this particular form of Suspender -end, as any other fastening or attaching device may be employed.
The webbing passes down between the clamping-jaws of the slide or buckle 2, thence through the loop 6, thence up and through the loop 3 of the buckle or slide, and thence down the outside or rear of the body portion of the webbing, as clearly shown, and has a tab 7 at its lower end secured to the cast-off or other fastening device in any approved manner such, for instance, as the eyelet shown.
With the form shown in Fig. 3 instead of securing the end of the webbing or tab directly to the fastening or attaching device the latter has a second loop 8 at its upper end, to which the web is secured.
The buckle or slide 2 is not secured to the webbing except by its clamping-jaws and by the webbing passed through its loop 3 and can be freely adjusted longitudinally of the webbing to lengthen or shorten the suspender.
By forming the end of each body portion or should er-strap into a series of web-sections connected with the cast-off or other fastening or attaching device and passing through and folded through the buckles or adjusting-loops, as above explained, a wide range of adjustment is afforded with a comparatively slight movement of the slide or buckle. In this way a sufficient adjustment can be secured without the necessity of moving the buckles or slides over the shoulders of the wearer, as is often found necessary with suspenders in common use.
Slight changes might be made 1n the general form and arrangement of the parts described without departing from my invention, and hence I do not restrict myself to the precise details set forth, but consider myself at liberty to make such slight changes and alterations as fairly fall within the spirit and scope of my invention.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A device of the character described comprising a webbing, a slide thereon, said webbing formed into a loop below the slide and then passed through the slide and downwardly behind the loop formed by the webbing, an attaching device connected with the loop of the webbing and means for permanently connecting the end of the webbing behind the loop, with said attaching device behind the same.
2. Adevice of the character described, comprising a webbing, a slide thereon, the webbing formed into a loop below the slide, a cast-ofl connected with said loop, the webbing, after forming said loop being passed through the slide and then downwardly behind the loop of the webbing, and a device permanently connecting the end of the webbing to the cast-off behind the same.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
WILLIAM FREEMAN. Witnesses:
