' No. 804,868. PATENTED NOV. 21, 1905.
A. LLOYD. COMBINED CURTAIN AND SHADE FASTENING.
APPLICATION FILED JULY 5, 1904.
ALVIN LLOYD, OF LAHARPE, KANSAS.
COMBINED CURTAIN AND SHADE FASTENING- Specification of LettersPatent.
Patented Nov. 21, 1905.
Application filed July 5, 1.904- Serial No. 215,227.
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I', ALVIN LLOYD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Laharpe, Kansas, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in a Combined Curtain and Shade Holder, of which the following, taken in connection with the drawings, is a description.
My invention has for its object the production of a combined curtain and shade holder which is designed to be secured to'a window frame or sash as desired, and when so secured, if to the sash, the curtain and shade may be lowered with the sash, thereby securing ventilation and preventing any disturbance from the wind to the curtain or shade.
I have illustrated my invention in preferred form in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a top plan view of my invention, showing it attached to the window-sash. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the device removed from the window. Figs. 3 and 4 are modifications of the telescoping sections.
In carrying out my invention I have made the device adjustable. so that it may be fitted to difierentsizes of window-frames.
The device is preferably made of metal which may be of any kind suitable for the purpose and best adapted for utility and ornamentation.
An elongated metal strip or section B is provided at one end thereof with an integral foot-piece b, which is bent practically at right angles to the section B. The foot-piece is secured to the window -sash A by means of screws or the like passing through the apertures b.
The section B is curved or bent, as at C, about midway of its length, so as to conform to the shape of the sash or window frame. Passing the curve C, the section B is made wider and the edges 0 c arebent over, so that the edges thereof come together, as shown in Fig. 2. This forms a groove into which the middle section is fitted.
The middle section D is slightly narrower than the section B and is bent. at its middle, so that the sides are at right angles to each other.
The third or upright-supporting section E is provided with overturned edges d d, forming a groove similar to that in section B. The end 6 of this sect-ion is bent at right angles to the grooved portion and has secured to it an upright F. An aperture 6' is provided near the top of this upright and is adapted to receive the end of a curtain-pole. Should it, however, be desirable to hang the shade closer to the window, it can be done by providing an aperture in the section B. An open-ended slot f is provided at the top of the upright section F by which the curtain-pole is supported.
In assembling the device one end of the middle section D is telescoped by the groove formed by the overturned edges 0 c of section B, and the other end is likewise telescoped by the overturned edges d d of section E.
The middle section D is tightly fitted into the grooves in section B and E and is held in position by friction alone, thus doing away with bolts and nuts, &c., heretofore used for this purpose.
In Figs. 2 and 3 I have shown modifications of the telescoping sections. 1
In Fig. 3 the middle section D is provided with notches f'and the outer section is provided with apertures f, through which is passed a pin f By this means the parts may be adjusted to fit casings of different widths.
In Fig. 4 I have shown another form of construction by means of which the rectangular section is held in place. The section is provided with overturned lips g, which may by bending tightly over the inner section serve to hold it in position.
I do not desire to be limited to the precise details shown in the drawings, as the shape, size, and ornamentation thereof may be varied to suit the individual. It is also obvious that instead of using flat strips or sections as I have shown them oval, round, triangular, or any other shape might be employed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
I claim- In a combined curtain and shade holder, two outer elongated sections having a portion of the1r edges overturned to form grooves, one of said sections provided with a footpiece 6, the other with an upright plate provided with an open-ended slot, a right-angled middle section adapted to slide in the grooves In testimony whereof I have hereunto signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
ALVIN LLOYD.
