UNITED STATES PATENT ()FFICE.
TIMOTHY NOWELL, OF INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA.
IMPROVEMENT IN EXTENSION CURTAIN-ROLLERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 187,724, dated February 27, 1877; application filed July 12, 1876. v
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, TIMOTHY NoWELL, of Indianapolis, county of Marion, State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Extension Curtain-Sticks, of which the following is a description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
The object of my invention is to make ourtain-sticks in two or more sections, so as to be adjustable in length to suit the different widths of curtains and fit the bracketsupports; and my invention consists of an extension curtainstick, as set forth in the claim hereunto annexed.
Figure 1 represents a side view of my improved extension curtain-stick. Fig. 2 is a cross-section thereof, showing the interior construction.
AA represent the main curtain-stick, made in halves, as shown morefully in Fig. 2, united firmly together at the end, as at G, Fig. 1, with a strip of equal thickness with the sliding strip 0. Each side strip A A has a groove, in which slides the side strips D D, which are attached to the main strip 0, as shown in Fig. 2. The strips 0 D D are attached together, as shown, and to one end is secured the sections A A of the curtain-stick in a permanent manner; To each end of the curtain-stick is attached the usual pivot-plates B B, as shown. One edge of the strip 0 has a groove, f, in it the whole length, as shown, to receive and hold the curtain.
The sliding part, formed of the strips G D D and section of the main stick A A, can be adjusted out or in the main stick A A, as shown, and to which parts A and A. is secured the curtain, in the usual manner; and the stick, when extended to its proper length, is stiff and firm. When the curtain is secured thereon, the two sections are held in the proper position, and the curtain will roll freely thereon.
There may be other constructions of the stick, such as a square slide, an oblong slide, a dovetail slide, and many other forms that will accomplish the same purpose without departing from the spirit of my invention.
What I claim as new, andwish to secure by Letters Patent, is
The sliding part, consisting of the strips 0 D D, having the outer end A cylindrical, and provided with pivot-plate B, in combination with the semi-cylindrical grooved parts A A, arranged to operate in the manner set forth and described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
Witnesses: TIMOTHY N OWELL.
E. 0. FRINK,
E. O. WHITNEY.
