Description

B. LANDON.-
Improvement in Curtin-Fixtufes.
NO. 132,726, Patnted Nov. 5,1812.
UNITED STATES PATENT OEErcE BENJAMIN LANDON, OF CANTON, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN CURTAIN-FIXTURES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 132,726, dated Novenibcr, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, BENJAMIN LANDON, of
A Canton, in the county of Bradford and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Window-Curtain or Map Roller; and I do hereby declare that the followingis a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this spec iiication.
The nature of 'my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a Windowcurtain or :map roller,7 as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the saine, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, which represents a perspective View of my invention.
A represents the window-frame, and B the curtain. Both ends of the curtain B are attached to rollers O O-that is, one end to each roller. At each side of the curtain and to the frame A is attached a cord, a, extending the entire length of the frame, or at least as far as the curtain is to extend. These cords are attached at their ends to the frame, and wound once (or more, if necessary) around the ends of the rollers C C, passing in circumferential grooves on the same.
By this device it will be seen that the curtain B will roll or unroll from either end, the
rollers meeting in the center of the frame, and furthermore that the curtain will be held stationary at any point desired.
On one or both ends of each roller O is another circumferential groove,in which is wound once a cord, b, which passes around a knob or pulley, d, in the center on the side of the frame, and around another knob or pulley, e, at the end of the frame. There is one of these knobs or pulleys e at the top of the frame for the top roller, and another at the bottom for the lower roller. By this means either roller may be readily manipulated to raise or lower the curtain.
The same device may be used for rolling and unrolling maps which are attached to frames or have permanent places.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The rollers G C, in combination with the fixed cords a a at each side and knobs or pulleys e e and center knob or pulley d, and the cords b b passing around the ends of the roll-l ers and knobs or pulleys, all arranged substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony'that I claim the foregoing as my own I aftix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
l BENJAMIN LANDON.
