Specification of Letters Patent.

Application filed December 24, 1912. Serial No. 738,426.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, PHILIP S. DELANY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kansas City, in the county of Jackson and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Window- Frames; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to window frames and more particularly to a frame for use in combination with a ventilator of the type illustrated in the accompanying drawings, the principal object of the invention being to provide a frame into which a pane of glass may be inserted easily and quickly, and from which it may be removed in the same manner, thereby providing for the assembling of the glass and frame at the point where the ventilator is to be erected. In accomplishing this object I have provided the improved details of structure hereinafter described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Figure I is a perspective view of a part of a window frame constructed according to my invention and illustrating its use in combination with a ventilator. Fig. II is a detail perspective of part of the ventilator glass and its frame. Fig. III is an enlarged detail perspective of a part of the glass and frame. Fig. IV is a vertical section on the line IV-IV, Fig. III. Fig. V is a detail perspective of one of the clips for holding the ventilator glass in its frame.
In order that my invention may be thoroughly understood, I have described same in combination with a ventilator of simple type, although the ventilator features are not claimed in this application.
Referring more in detail to the parts: 1 designates a window frame and 2 a sash of ordinary construction. Each frame 6 preferably comprises a piece of grooved metal formed into a rectangular section, and having its free ends brought together and secured by means of a clamp 6; one end of each frame being provided with a slot 8 through which the glass plate 7 may be inserted or removed, a spring clip 9 being placed on the end of the frame over the slot When the glass is in place to prevent its sliding longitudinally I preferably provide the ventilator with two frames 6 and glass plates 7 and let their inner ends overlap, as illustrated in Fig. I, providing each frame with keepers 11 which are adapted to spring over the opposite frame to hold same together while allowing longitudinal sliding movement thereof, in this way providing for the easy and quick replacement of broken plates.
In using a frame of this construction, the glass is inserted through the slot in the end of the frame and seated in the frame grooves. When the glass has been completely seated, the spring clip is forced over the end of the frame to cover the slot and prevent the accidental displacement of the glass.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new therein'and desire to secure by Letters-Patent, is:
A window frame comprising a grooved metal frame member having a beaded edge and a flat portion within the beaded edge and having a slot in one of its integral sides opening into the frame-groove and adapted to receive a pane of glass, and a spring clip having a curved body and flat lips adapted for overlying the frame bead and flat portions of the metal frame respectively to cooperate therewith and clamp the sides of the frame adjacent said slot against a pane of glass contained within the frame groove.
