I. A. HOOKENBERY. GROWN DIRT SHIELD FOR FLOWS.
APPLICATION FILED MAR.28.1905.
WQYiMJMJ: 5 5 y 5 1x232 aa12wiw IINITED STATES PATENT onnion.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 24;, 1905.
Application filed March 28, 1905. Serial No. 252,607.
To (tlZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, IsAAo A. HooKENBERY, tcitizen of the United States, residing in High- )ridge, in the county of Hunterdon and State )f New Jersey, have invented certain new and iseful Improvements in Crown Dirt-Shields ?or Plows, of which the following is a speciication.
The invention has reference to plows, and nore especially to an improvement thereof or ittachment therefor, as will protect the furrow created by the plow against such remiants of the furrow-slice as may attempt to force their way over the molclboard while ;he plow is in operation.
It is a design of the invention to manufac- 31118 plows in accordance with this invention )r to manufacture attachments embodying ;his invention and which can be placed on plows already manufactured.
An embodiment of the invention is illus- ;rated on the accompanying sheet of drawings, whereon Figure 1 illustrates a top plan view, partly in perspective, of a plow with the improvement applied. Fig. 2 illustrates a side elevational view of the same. Fig. 3 illustrates a perspective elevation view looking from the rear of the plow, and Fig. 4: illustrates in perspective the apron adapted to be attached to a plow.
In the several illustrations similar characters of reference indicate similar parts.
The invention may be embodied in a plow while the same is being manufactured or may be applied to plows now in use and which comprehend handles 5, a beam 6, a clevis 7 a moldboard 8, a plowshare 9, and the usual slip-point 10. A fender 11, which in the present instance may be provided with lugs 12 and 13, having openings 1A and 15, may
have the smaller end 16 of it tapering and inserted into a crotch formed by the neck of the beams 6 and the moldboard 8-for instance, as seen in Fig. 2-and this fender may be fastened to the beam, as well as the moldboard, in any suitable mannersuch, for instance, as by rivets 17while of course, as is understood, the fastening of this fender in place may be accomplished in any suitable manner by mounting the same in a brace 18 by having the members 12 and 13 thereof affixed in extensions 19 and 20, which may be carried by said braces and which member may take against the under side of the handles at a point behind the plowshare, as seen, for instance, in Fig. 3.
It will now be seen that during the plowing operation and as the furrow-slice is forced upwardly along the moldboard that said slice may be fully overturned away from such moldboard Without any of the remnants thereof passing over the edge of the moldboard and dropping into the furrow.
Within the purview of this invention I may vary the construction and assemblage of parts without departing from the spirit thereof.
Having thus described this invention, I claim- 1. In a plow, the combination with a moldboard a handle, and a beam of a tapering fender adapted to be located in the crotch between the molclboarcl and beam.
2. In a plow the combination with a moldboard and a beam, of a fender located between the upper portion of the moldboard and the beam and means to hold the fender in place.
ISAAC A. H OGKENBERY.
