Be it known that I, BENJAMIN Moms, a citi- Zen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Wrist-Supported Blotter, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

My invention relates to blotters, such as are used by bookkeepers and writers of various kinds. my more particular purpose being to adapt the blotter' for use upon the wrist of the operator, so that it may be used when desired without materially interfering with the f work of the pen.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.

Figure l is a perspective view showing my improved blotter in use. Fig. 2 is an enlarged central longitudinal section through the device; and Fig. 3 is an enlarged vertical cross-section through the same, the` supporting-band being partly in elevation.

A supporting-band A, made of, resilient material, preferably of rubber, is secured by fasteners 5 to a guard 6 and a facing 7, the latter being preferably of leather or tough cardboard. The fasteners are provided with tongues 8, which may be bent, as indicated at 9, so as to hold the guard and the facing' securely together at their middle portions, as indicated in Fig. 2.

A leaf l0 of blotting-paper is bent backward upon itself, so as to .form two portions 10, the corners beingclipped off at 10b, asindicated in Fig. l. The outer ends of the facing 7 and guard 6 are now sprung apart in order that the ends 10iL of the blottingpaper may be inserted. The pressure of the fasten* ing members serves to hold the ends l()u securel y in position, and yet allows the blottingpaper to be readilyremoved, which is accomplished by merely springing the members 6 7 apart.

The operation of my device is as follows:

The operator inserts his wrist 11 beneath the supporting-strip 4L, which, being' of rubber or other resilient material, allows him to exercise considerable freedom in moving his wrist. He is therefore enabled to use the pen 12 with facility, the blotter upon his wrist afg fording him no inconvenience whatever. 1f

now he wishes to use the blotter, he merely elevates his wrist so as to bring the blotter down upon the work. The blotter is so arranged that, if desired, the operator can pro duce a slight rocking movement with his wrist, so as to render the blotting more effective.

My invention' is of peculiar value for the use of bookkeepers, whose time is valuable and who have usually but little room in which to keep an assortment of blotters.

One advantage, among others, in using my invention is the fact that the blotter is not likely to get lost'. The bookkeeper or other writer before beginning his work places the blotter upon his wrist, and there it remains until the work is finished. Owing to thought given to his work, he is liable to forget the location of a blotter, and in stopping to look for one he is liable to make a mistake because of his thought being diverted.` rIhis is remedied by the use of my invention.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent* A wrist-supported blotter comprising a pair of plates arranged parallel with each other and adapted to receive between their corresponding ends, the ends of the strip of blotting-paper, an elastic supporting-strip having' its ends inserted between the edges of the plates intermediate the ends thereof, and fasteners traversing the plates and the interposed strip for securing the parts together.
