IMPROVED MAGHIN FOR CUTTING LEATHER FILLING, AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES.

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN: r
Be it known that I, REUBEN C. TURNER, of Meudon, in the county of St. Joseph, and State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Improvement'in an Apparatus for Cutting Leather Filling, and forV Other Purposes; and I do declare that the following-is a true and accurate description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, and being a part of this specification.
The object of this invention is to construct a. small and inexpensive machine, for harness-makers more particularly, with which they may easily and rapidly cut oval or convex fillings of any required size for tugs and other straps Whereiillipg maybe desirable.. i i
In order to accomplish this end, I construct a proper frame,iA, upon the top oi' ivhich, and secured to it by proper screws, B, I secure the series of concave' knives C, of different sizes, andall attached to one plate, D. i i i Between the ends ofthe plate and the frame may be placed proper lifts of paper, leather, or other suitable material, by removing any of which the knife-plate may be adjusted as may be necessary.
I also attach a proper roller, E, over which the strips of leather to be operated upon pass, and which holds them firmly against the cutting-edges of the knives. This roller. is properly journalled at each end into a proper frame, F, which is attached to the frame A by a proper rod, G, upon which it is pivoted.
H are set-screws, working through the lugs I, upon the frame F, for the purpose of regulating the set of Vthe roller E. Y

vWhat I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The roller E, when attached to the frame F, in connection with the concave knivesC, plate D, screws B, frame A, the rod G, the set-screws H, andthe lugs I, when arranged and operating substantially as and for the purpose herein set forth.
2. The spring J", when operating as and forthe purposes speciiied.
