TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it kno-.vn that I, ESAU "lAunANT, ofMuskegon, Muskegon county, Michigan, have invented a new and useful Improvement. in Sawing Machines; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear,.and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in'the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying dra-wings, forming part of this specification, in whichi Figure 'l is a top or plan view of my improved sawing machine. Figure 2 is a vertical longitudinal section of the same taken through the line a: x,'fi,;. 1. Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
My invention has for its objectl to so improve the construction of sawing machines thatthe lumber may be sawn straight, and of any required thickness, without its being necessary to adjust rolls, as is the case with the machines in common use; and it consists in the feeding device formed by the combination of tbe feed-rollers, having sharp points or teeth projecting from their surfaces, and the binding-roller with each other and with the frame of the machine; the whole being constructednd arranged as hereinafter more fully described.
A Ais the fraine of the machine. B are rollers pivoted to the frame of the machine, upon which the lumber rides as it is fed forward to the saw or saws C. AD are the feed-rollers, which are placed the one in front and the other in the rear of the saws, and which are driven from the driving-shaft of the machine by an arrange! ment of pulleys and bands or gear-wheels connecting them with the said-driving-shaft. The surfaces of the rollers D are studded with numerous sha-rp projecting points or teeth d', which take hold` of the lumber and feed it forward te the saws C. 'lhc lumber is held down to its place while Abeing sawn `by the binding-roller E,Vthe journals of which revolve in bearings in the pivoted frame F. The other end of the frame F is pivotedv to the uprigbts or standards G, attached to the frame A, as shown in iig. 2. The binding-roller Eis held down Vupon the lumber by its own weight, or by vone or more elastic straps or springs H,V connecting the free ends' of the frame F to the frame A, so that it may adjust itself to the thickness of the lumber being sewn.4
Having'thus described my invention, I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent-fa Theroller E, hung in the pivoted framcF, made adjustable by means of the elastic H, in combination with the rollers D, having sharp points or teeth d', substantially as described for the purpose specified.
i v ESA TARBLANT.
