IMPROVEMENT IN WIRE-HANDLE FORMER.

The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making parl: ofthe same- To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, WlLLIAM C. JONES, of Quincy, in the county of Adams, and State of Illinois, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Tinners Tools for`li`ormiug Wire Handles to Ians, &c.; and I do hereby declare that the following is a'full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the. annexed drawings, making a part oithis specification, and to the letters and iigures of reference marked thereon.

M y invention relates to means for bending or forming wire handles, for the use of tinners, in manufacturing pans, tubs, and articles of a lsimilar character; and

It consists, mainly, in the construction and novel arrangement of devices, by which such bending and forming may be ,expediciously and effectively. performed.

The letter A of the drawings represents a plate, or oblong disk, having a wedge att-aclnnent, B, for fasten ing to a bench, a chisel, (J, for cutting the wire, and a circular slot, I), for the purposes hereinafter mentioned. l

The wedge B is usually cast with the plate, but the chisel O is removable at will.

' an adjustable plate, attached thereto, by means of set- `The letter H represents a hinged gauge, arranged, with a slot and setscrew, as shown, to regulate the length of the bow or crook of the handle, and the leti ter (l is a spring, working thereunder.

The letter K represents a sliding,r block, having slot and set-screw, as shown, the oliceof which is to hold the wire in the position required against the disk Y, next mentioned.

The letters Y represent disks, of various sizes, adapted to lit over the pin i upon the upper surface of plate A.

To eac-l1 machine, I provide four or more of these disks, adapted to the sizes of' the handles I intend to have formed therewith. They, respectively, setloosely upon the piu t", and are removable at will.

To formy a wire handle, by my apparatus, I first arrange the length thereof by the gauge G and the chisel O. gauge H, and the other, along side of the s winginf.; har E, holding the same in my right hand, while I press upon the gauge G with my left. the side of lever E, the wire sets in the groove c, and is supported thereby. proper disk placed upon its piu, I swing the bar E around t0 the left, and the handle is formed.
