IMPROVED MACHINE FOR SPLITTING AND SKIVING LEATHER.
4 Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 58,68 l dated October 9, 1866.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Beit known that I, SAMUEL II. SGIIENCK, of Zionsville, in the county of Boone and State of Indiana, have invented a new and Improved Mode of Splitting;` and Skiving Leather, and I do hereby declare that the following is a clear, full, and exact description thereof, reference bein g had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The nature of my invention consists in constructing` two cheeks, 7 7, of semicircnlar shape, and placing between them a segmental skiving-bloek, l. This block turns on a pivot at 9, and is regulated or set to the knife 2 by means of the set-screw 6. 3 is a lever which works on a pivot at l0, and to it is fastened the knife 2 by means ot' setscrews et 4.
For splitting; leather, I use the roller 5, between which and the knife 2 the strap has to pass to be split. The roller 5 is set with the same set-screw, 6, which adjusts the block 1.
Vhat I claim, and desire to secure by Iietters Patent of the United States, is
1. The cheeks 7 7, the adjustable skivingblock 1, the knife 2, and its attachment to the lever 3.
2. lThe roller 5, in connection with the skiving process and the set-screw 6, all arranged and operating` substantially as set forth and described.
