To (LZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, WALTER D. Ross, a citizen of the United States, residing at Worcester, in the county of Worcester and Commonwealth of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Display-Boards for Seed-Packages, of which the following is a specification, accompanied by drawings, forming a part of the same, in which Figure 1 is a front View of a display-board embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is an end View of the same, and Fig. 3 is an enlarged view of one of the staples by which the seed-packages are held.
Similar reference-figures refer to similar parts in the different views.
My invention relates toadisplay-board for small packages or envelops for sale, which is secured in an upright position and which possesses means for supporting said packages on the board against gravity and means for preventing the lateral and forward movement of said packages.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, 1 denotes a board supported in an inclined position, preferably by a brace or support 2, which is attached to the rear side of the board by the hinge 3. The board 1 presents a plane surface on which, disposed in pairs at convenient intervals; are supporting wires or staples 4, shown in detail in Fig. 3 and designed to support the packages or envelops 5. Each pair of these supporting-staples is adapted to inclose a number of packages or envelops, supporting them against gravity and preventing lateral and forward movement. These staples are constructed of wire, bent at right angles to form a crown-section 6 and legs 7 and 8, having the ends sharpened to facilitate their introduction into the board, as shown in Fig. 3. The upper leg 7 of each staple is longer than the lower leg 8, so that the inclination of the board when supported by the brace 2 is compensated for, as shown in Fig. 2, bringing the crown-section of the staples to stand approximately vertical. The staples are inserted in pairs,
with their upper ends divergent to afford a free entrance for the package or envelop between the upper legs 7, while the lower legs 8 of each pair are brought nearer together to form a rest for the lower edge of the package and support it against gravity. Lateral movement of the packages is prevented by the upper legs 7, and forward movement is limited by the crown portions 6 of the. two staples, which stand at an oblique angle to each other. The easy insertion and removal of the packages are therefore secured, especially when the space between the staples is nearly occupied.
I am aware that display-boards for seedpackages have been constructed having means for supporting said packages against gravity and preventing lateral and forward movement, and I do not claim such broadly.
By my present improvement I am enabled to construct the entire support for the package from two wires held both at top and bottom, thereby greatly increasing the stability of the support as well as the convenience of I its construction and a decrease in its cost. The continuity of the crown portions 6 serves to conduct the advancing lower end of the package after it has once entered between the upper legs 7, and the crown-sections 6 are securely held from accidental displacement by means of their secure anchorage in the board 1 by means of the legs 7 and 8.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A display-board designed for the display of small packages or envelops for sale, means for supporting the same in an upright position, means for supporting the packages on the board and consisting of wires or staples arranged in pairs, with the staples of each pair at an oblique angle to each other.
2. A display-board designed for the display of small packages or envelops for sale, means for supporting the same in an upright position, means for holding the packages, embracing wires bent into the form of a staple both ends of which are inserted in said board, said staples being arranged in pairs at an oblique angle to each other, with the space between the upper ends of the staples greater than the width of the package to be held and the space between the lower ends of the staples less than the width of the package, whereby the packages or envelops are both supported against gravity and prevented fromlateral and forward movement.
