CHARLES TELEJSZO, OF BRESLAU, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR TO JOHN KATULKA, OF VVILKESBARRE, PENNSYLVANIA.
LOCKlNG DEVlCE FOR TURNBUCKLIES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 22, 1905.
Application filed April 14:, 1905. Serial No. 255,612.
To all Hill/07771 771; may concern.-
Be it known that I, CHARLES TELEJSZO, a citizen of the United States, residing at Breslau, in the county of Luzerne and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Locking Devices for .l.urnbuckles, of which the following is a specilication.
My invention relates to looks for turnbuckles; and it consists of a locking device in the form of a bar and means for connecting it at one end to one of the rods coupled by the turnbuckle and having at the other end a lip to enter the slot of the turnbuckle, as fully set forth hereinafter, and as illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective View showing my improved locking device as applied to a turnbuckle in use. Fig. 2 is a sectional view showing one form of attaching means for connecting the locking-bar to one of the rods. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section of Fig. 1, drawn to a reduced scale. Fig. 4 is a perspective view illustrating a different form of locking-bar.
The turnbuckle D may be of any usual form adapted to receive the ends of the rods X X to be connected, one or both of which may be threaded.
The buckle is prevented from turning independently of the rods by means of the looking device, consisting of a bar A, having a lip 1 adapted to enter the slot of the turnbuckle and provided with means whereby the bar at its opposite end may be secured to one of the rods.
In the construction shown in Figs. 1, 2, and 3 the bar is flat and bent down a tone end to form the lip 1 and has a longitudinal slot 2 at the opposite end, through which slot extends a securing-screw B into an enlargement C on the rod X, the said. enlargement being forged with and forming a part of the rod or consisting of a block secured thereto, as may be desired.
When the bar is secured in position by the securing device B, with the lip or lug 1 projecting into the slot of the turnbuckle, the latter cannot be turned independently of the rod, while the slot 2 permits the adjustment longitudinally of the bar to accommodate different positions of the turnbuckle.
The bar A may be a spring-bar, so that it may be carried out of the slot in the turnbuckle by lifting the end of the same, a ring or grasping device F being secured thereto for this purpose.
In order to prevent the securing device B from working loose, I use a screw-bolt with a flat head 5, having lugs A A at the under side. This is passed through the slot 2 and turned until the lugs are about to enter the slot, when the bar may be turned with the bolt, with the lugs in the slot, until the bar is against the enlargement C, and the other end is then sprung up to pass over the turnbuckle and lowered to allow the lip to enter the slot of the buckle.
In the construction shown in Fig. 4 the bar is shown as consisting of a round red A, flattened at one end and bent to form a lip 1 and formed at the other end into a ring 6, adapted to receive the rod X, with a set-screw B for holding the device upon the rod.
Vithout limiting myself to the precise con struction and arrangement of parts shown, I claim as my invention-- 1. A turnbuckle-lock consisting of a turnbuckle, a bar having a lip arranged to enter the opening of the turnbuckle, and means for connecting the other end of the bar to one of the rods coupled by the turnbuckle, substantially as set'forth.
2. The combination with a turnbuckle, of a locking device consisting of a spring-rod provided with a lip and grasping device at one end, and means for securing it at the other end to one of the rods to be coupled, substantially as set forth.
8. A turnbuckle-lock consisting of a turnbuckle, a bar having a lip at one end and slotted at the other end, a securing-screw adapted to pass through the slot and having a head and lugs beneath the head, and a rod perforated to receive the screw, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
CHARLES TELEJSZO. Witnesses:
KL. RAEDER, K. E. FERRY.
