T0 all whom t may concern:
Be 1t known that I, HARVEY A. PINEGAR,
citizen of the United States, residing at4 tion.
rlhis invention relates to improvements in devices for preventing the retrograde movement of nuts on bolts7 more particularly to bolts employed in connection with the main trace supporting portions of the haines ofA a harness, and has for one of its obyects to` simplify the construction and improve the etliciency and utility of devices of this character.
With these and other objects in view the` invention consists in certain novel features of construction as hereinafter shown and described and then specically pointed out in the claims, and in the drawings illustrative of the preferred embodiment of the invention Figure 1 is a perspective view of a portion of a conventional hame with the improvement applied. Fig. 2 is a detached perspective view of the bolt holding member.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawing by the same reference characters.
Much annoyance and difficulty have been heretofore experienced from the tendency of the rods which hold the main trace supporting member upon a haine working loose under the jarring strains to which they are subjected, and the principal object of the present invention is to provide a simply constructed attachment whereby the rods of devices of this character are locked in position and prevented from retrograde movement, and in the drawings in Fig. 1 the imL proved device is shown applied to a rod of this character, the `body portion of the haine being represented conventionally at 10 and the metal supporting plate at l11 of the usual construction. Extending from the body portion of the haine and operating through the metal portion 11 are standaYdS l2-13 spacedapart, the standard 13 having a threaded aperture to receive the threaded terminal 14C of a rod 15, the latter extending at one lend through thestandard'12 and proirangsra'rpsgfrENTGFFCE N vided with a head 16 preferably square as shown. K Bearing upon the member 11 adj acent to the standard 12 is a holding member including a base 20 and a lateral oifjset` 21,
the latter engaging one face of the square head 16, while the base 2Q issecured to thek member 11 by a suitablelfastening device such'as a screw 22. After the rod 15 has `been turned home by a wrench applied to its head, the holding' member 20 is arranged in position with its oiset 21 againstv the head 16 and the fastening device 22 ap` plied. By this means it will be obvious that n a simply constructed `holding device is produced which bears against the head 16 and prevents any retrograde movement of the rod. By this means also the rod is retained in position within the standards and all body, of a standard having a threaded aperture, a threaded member engaging said threaded aperture and provided with a head including a flat face7 a holding member bearing` upon the supporting body and formed with an offset engaging against the flat face of the head, and fastening means connecting tendency to work loose or become detached n the holding member tothe supporting body.` s
2. The combination with a ksupporting body, of perforated standards spaced apart and extending from the body, one of ysaid standards having its perforation threaded, a member threaded at one end to engage the threaded aperture of the standard andhaving a polygonal head bearing against the In testmonywhereof I nfIX my signature other standard, a holdnglmember boarlng in presence of 'two Witnesses.
