R. DREBLOW KEY HOLDER Filed Ma rch 14, 1925 mz/zmm irdzam WITNESS: ATTORNEY Patented Dec. 29, 1925.
" UNITED STATES.
1,567,926 ATENT OFFICE.
ROBERT DREBLOW, OF LEBANON, SOUTH DAKOTA.
KEY HOLDER.
Application filed Mareh'M, 1925, Serial No. 15,604.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, .Ronnn'r Dnnnnow, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lebanon, in the county of Potter and State of South Dakota, have invented new and useful Improvements in Key Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to key holders, and contemplates the provision of a device designed for association with the shank of the doorknob, and also to receive the head of the door key in a manner to prevent the key from being turned or forced from the key hole from the outside of the door, the invention residing in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as claimed.
In the drawing forming part of this application, like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views, and wherein:
Figure 1 is an edge elevation of the door showing the invention in side elevation and the manner in which the key is held associated with the door.
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken on the line 22 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a view in elevation of one of the component parts of the key holder.
Figure 4 is a sectional View taken on the line 4- 1 of Figure 3.
Referring to the drawings in detail, 10 represents a portion of a door, while 11 represents the shank of the door knob.
The key holder forming the subject matter of the present invention embodies a pair of companion members 12 and 13 respectively. each member being in the form of a substan tially L-shaped block of any suitable material, and wherein the vertical branch is relatively narrow as clearly shown in Figure 1. These vertical branches 14 are adapted to be arranged at opposite sides of the shank 11, and the confronting faces of said vertical branches are formed with semi-circular depressions 15, each of which partly receives the shank 11 as clearly shown in Figure 2. In this manner, the holder in its entirety is suspended from the shank, the parts 12 and 13 being held in operative relation by means of bolts 16 passed through the members. each bolt being equipped with a thumb nut, or the like 17. There are preferably two of these bolts, and which bolts are arranged at the points illustrated in Figure 1. "When the companion members are operatively associated, they are slightly spacedapart as shown in Figure 2 to receive therebetween the head 18 of the door key indicated at 19. The lower portions of the companion members are provided with a plurality of openings 20 which of course are arranged in registration with each other, and between some of said openings, the head 18 of the key is adaptedto be positioned, so that a locking pin 21 can be passed through aligned openlngsin the companion members of the holder, and also be passed through the opening in the head 18 of the key. Consequently the key is held within the key hole'opening of the door, after the door has been locked,
so that the key cannot be turned to unlock the door, or forced from the key hole, by anyone occupying a position at the outside of the door. The locking element 21 may be of any suitable design and is preferably attached to one end of a flexible element 222, the other end of which is secured to an eye member 23 carried by one of the companion members of the holder. The construction of the invention is very simple, so that it may be manufactured and sold at a nominal cost, while it is obvious that the invention can be quickly attached to or removed from the shank of the knob as the occasion may require.
While it is believed that from the fore going description, the nature and advantages of the invention will be readily apparent, I desire to have it understood that 1 do not limit myself to what is herein shown and described, and that such changes may be resorted to when desired as fall within the scope of what is claimed.
Having thus described the invention, I claim: a
1. A device for holding the key in the lock of a door, said device comprising a pair of companion members of identical construction, each member being substantially of L-shaped formation, and having corresponding vertical branches designed to partly embrace the shank of the knob, from which companion members are suspended for use, means for holding the members together in operative relation, with the head of the key positioned between the members, said members having a plurality of aligned openings, one pair of which is adapted to register with the opening in i he head of the key, and a locking element adapted to be passed through said openings and through said head of the key for the purpose specified.
2. A device for holding a key in the lock of a. door, said device comprising companion members, said members being substantially L-shaped and having their correspondii'ig vertical branches arranged at oppositesides of the shank of the door knob, the confronting faces of said vertical branches being recessed to partly receivethe shank, whereby the device is suspended therefrom for use,' fastening bolts passed through said members for holding the latter operatively associated with the head of the key positioned between the members, the lower portions of said members having a plurality of aligned openings between one pair of which the head of the key is adapted to be arranged. a flexible element attached to one member, and a locking element carried by the flexible element and adapted to be passed through the head of the key, and the openings in registration therewith.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
