TURNBUGKLE.
APPLICATION FILED SEPT.20,1912.

a Normal "mariner: roan, or sen-Trim,- umsmrrcrr on.
'r fl msuc nnt To kill whom it may concern Be it known that I, VBERTRAMIL. Fem), a
citizen of the United States, residing at S'eattle, in the county of King and; State of 5 Washington, have invented new and useful Improvements in Turnbuckles, of whiclrthe following is a specification. r
The invention 'relates'to turn bi1ckles,-and
more particularly to the class of safety-turn l0 buckles and locking devices therefor.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a turn buckle wherein the same is held locked against turningumovement to avoid the loosening thereof, thus assuring proper adjustment of 'the'turn, buckle, as well as avoiding the accidental loosening of the same. f
Another object 0 Vision of a turn buckle of i this character wherein the lock is mounted upon one of'the rods connected therewith, so that it Will engage the turn buckle for sustaining it in its adjusted position, the lock beingreadilyi ma-' nipulated to permit the free adjustment of the buckle and in this manner permitting accurate adjustment to be attained and at the same time avoiding the possibility of the loosening of the buckle.
A further object-of the invention is the provision of a turn buckle which is designed for use with brake or other rods, so that the latter may be tightened and the buckle locked to prevent the loosening thereof.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of a turn buckle wherein-the same may be locked. without the.use of jam nuts, pins, or other fasteners.
A still further object of the provision of a'turn-buckle which is simple in construction, reliable and eflicient in its purpose, and inexpensive in manufacture.
. invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed- Y out in the claim hereunto appended. In the'drawings: Figure 1 is a side elevaably connected thereto, showing the loeking -Si1ee1-fi ca ;tion of Lettersretente Application filed September 20, 1912. Serial Notfllglflli.
f the invention" is the prothe invention is tion of a turn buckle an'd'the rods adju'st-' devicevconstructed in accordance wlth the invention in l cked. position-- Fig. 2 is" a top plan view thereof. Fig. 3'jsausecfional 4 view onath e line of Fig. 2.

Referring tothe. drawings by numerals,
5 and 6 designate independent rods thesariie being provided with reversely threaded ends iQ are engaged. i a
buckle 8 as usual, wherebythesaid .rods
mayr'equire;- I v Adapted to be formed on either of the rods 5 and 6 is a'locking device, although in may be tightened or loosened as the occasien this instance-the latter is shown on the rod 5, and'comprisesa flat resilient arm or bar 9, the same being bent near its free-end to provide a latch lip 10, which is ad a pted to be normally engaged in the open center ll of the turn buckle so as to prevent the turning' thereofaccidentally yet when it is desired to adjust the saidturn-buckle the arm tracting the latch lip 10 from the openv cenor bar 9 can be pulled outwardly thereby reter 11 of the turn buckle, thus freeing the same for adjustment. 1 r
The bar or arm 9 at the free end thereof beyoiid the locking'lip is formed with an upwardly bowed finger grip 12 whichpew mits the engagement of the finger of a 'per-.
' son therewith, so that the said armor bar canbie pulled outwardly for the unlocking ofthe turn, buckle. By reason ,of the res'iliency'of the armor bar 9 the latch lip will a be normally sustained in looking relation to the turn buckle for sustaining it in its act-- justed position.
connection f with the accompanying drawoperation .of the invention will be clearly understood, andtherefore a, more extended explanation has been omitted. '.What' is claimed is opposite'endsof the turn buckle, a resilient member integrally formed with one of. the rods and having a right angularly A p v ings, it is thought that the construction and With these and other objects in view the- A-turii buckle lock comprising a waif buckle, a pair of rodsadjust'ably threaded dieposed v 90 From the foregoing description, taken in locking lip adapted to engage in the turn In testimony whereof I aflix my signature buckle for sustaining the same in adjusted in presence of two Witnesses: position, and a hook-like terminal formed BERTRAM L FORD 0n the lip and having its free end spaced 5 from one side of the turn buckle whereby Witnesses: v
