Description
PATENTED JULY 3, l9 O6.
G. s. WOLLEN. THRESHER TOOTH.
APPLICATION FILED AUG. 10. 1905.
gwvewboz 6 wof/en N E13- E UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Qatented July 3, 1906.
Application filed August 10. 1905. Serial No. 273,625.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GABRIEL S. WOLLEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Clay Center, in the county of Clay and State of Nebraska, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Thresher-Teeth; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in teeth for the cylinders and concaves of threshing-machines and the like.
The object of the invention is to provide a simple, durable, and comparatively inexpensive device of this character which may be readily applied to, tightened upon, or removed from the cylinder or concave.
With the above and other objects in view the invention consistsof certain novel features of construction, combination, and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Fig. 1 is a vertical sectional view through one of the slats or bars of a thresher cylinder or concave, showing one of my improved teeth mounted thereon. Fi 2 is a detail sectional view taken on theline 2 2 in Fig. 1, and Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the tooth.
Referring to the drawings by numeral, 1 denotes a slat, bar, or other ortion of the concave or cylinder of a three er or similar machine. This bar, as shown, is of substantially rectangular form in cross-section and has extending along one of its ed es a longitudinal rib or bead 2. At suitable intervals along the bar or bars 1 are formed 0 enings 3 and recesses 4 for the reception of my improved teeth 5. The latter have their inner ends hooked-shaped or of substantially U form, so that the connecting portion 6 of the tooth is adapted to en age the inner or under side of the bar 1, and t e arms or ends 7 8 are adapted to enter the opening 3 and the recess 4, respectively. The large arm 8 is seated in the recess 4, and its outer end 9 is of the usual form, as shown. The small arm 7 of the tooth is preferably s uare in cross-section and projects throug the similarlyshaped opening 3, which is formed in the body portion of the bar 1. The extreme outer end of the bar 7 is reduced and screwthreaded, as shown at 10, to receive a clamping-nut 11, which is held in place by a lockin -washer 12. The latter is formed, preferab ly, from sheet metal and is shaped to engage the upper or outer face of the bar 1. One of the ends of the washer 12 is slotted, as shown at 13, to permit the long arm 8 of the tooth to be inserted therein, and the opposite end of said washer is formed with an opening 14,through which the threaded end 10 of the tooth projects. The nut 1 1 is locked in positionby bending a portion 15 of the washer upwardly into engagement with one side of the nut, as clearly shown in the drawings.
From the fore oing description, taken in connection with t e accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.
Various changes in the form, proportion, and the minor details of construction may be resorted to Without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
l. The combination with a bar of a thresher cylinder or concave formed with a longitudinally-extending rib, a transversely-extending recess in one of its faces and a trans versely-extending opening in its body portion, of a substantially U-shaped tooth having its arms seated in said recess and opening, screw-threads upon the projecting end of the short arm of said tooth, a washer upon said bar apertured to receive said arm, and a clampmg-nut upon said screw-threads, said washer being adapted to be bent up to lock said nut against rotation, substantially as described.
2. A tooth for the cylinders and concaves of. threshing-machines or the like of substantially U form with one long and one short arm and having its short arm screw-threaded to receive an attaching-nut, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
GABRIEL S. WOLLEN.
