Description
PATENTED AUG. 8, 1905.
I. SAVITT. DETAGHABLE COLLAR FOR OVERGOATS.
APPLICATION FILED MAR-13,1905.
ATTORNEY;
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
DETACHABLE COLLAR FOR OVEFICOATS.
Specification of Letters Patent Patented Aug. 8, 1905.
Application filed March 13, 1905. Serial No. 249,769.
To all whom it may concern: 7
Be it known that I, ISADOR M. SAVITT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Milwaukee, county of Milwaukee, and State of Wisconsin, have invented new and useful Improvements in Detachable Collars for Overcoats, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in detachable collars for overcoats.
The object of my invention is to provide means whereby a fur collar may be detachably secured to an overcoat in such a manner that it will appear to be permanently connected therewith and will fit the neck neatly and smoothly and without the clumsy appearance usually produced where a detachable collar is folded over the permanent collar of a coat.
In the following description reference is had to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a view of a coat embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a view of the collar detached and with the fur partially broken away on one side. Fig. 3 is a sectional view of a portion of the coat and collars.
Like parts are identified by the same reference characters throughout the several views.
A is the back or under surface of a yoke formed of cloth similar to that of which the overcoat is composed and tapering to rounded points at its lower ends.
B is a strip covering the inner margin of the back A, and C is an interlining of coarser material covered by the fur D. The yoke as a whole is therefore provided with two inner marginal flaps which extend inwardly from the fur-covered portion, and buttonholes b are provided in the under flap or inner edge portion of the back A.
The coat is provided with buttons E, which are set well under the permanent collar F and to which the under flap of the removable collar is buttoned when in use. The fur covers the outer portion of the detachable collar and the rounded edges, and wherever the inner edge becomes visible when the coat is in use it shows the cloth of the flap B, which appears to be that of the coat itself. By using the flaps the pufly appearance is also avoided which is produced Where the fur covers the entire surface of the removable collar and laps on both sides of the permanent collar.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination with a coat provided with a permanent collar; of a detachable collar provided with inner marginal flaps of material similar to that of the coat; a covering of fur for the outer portions of said collar exclusive of said flaps; and means for securing the under marginal flaps to the inner surface of the coat under the permanent collar, and in a position with the fur covering the outer surface of the coat around the neck and over the rounded edges of the coat-collar, underneath which the flaps are extended without fur; said detachable collar being in the form of a yoke tapered at its lower ends.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
IS ADOR M. SAVITT.
