The invention is a collar which may be made integral with a shirt or separate therefrom which is provided with a button hole in the undersurface of the outer or exposed portion which buttons over a button on the neck band.

The object of the invention is to provide means for holding the corners of a collar which is not visible.

Another object is to provide means for holding the corners of a collar which is formed integral with the collar.

Another object is to provide means for holding the corners of a collar whichmay be embodied in a collar that is made integral with a shirt or that is provided as a separate unit.

Another object is to provide means for holding the corners of a collar which will also hold the necktie in position.

Another object is to provide means for holding the corners of a collar which is made integral with the collar and which adds comparatively no additional expense in the manufacture thereof.

A further object is to provide means for holding the corners of a collar which may be formed of the material of which the collar is made.

And a still further object of the invention is to provide means for holding the corners of a collar which is comparatively simple and economical to make.

lVith these ends in view the invention embodies a collar having a button hole formed in a piece of material on the underside of the outer section thereof and adjacent the ends thereof, and a button on a neck band over which the piece of material having the button hole therein may be buttoned.

Other features and advantages of the invent on will appear from the following description taken in connection with the drawing. wherein:

In the drawing the device is shown as it so would be made wherein numeral 1 indicates the outer portionvof a collar, numeral 2 the neck band, and numeral 3 an extra piece of material in which a button hole may be worked.

It will be understood that the collar may be of any shape, type or design and may be provided as a separate unit or attached to a shirt as shown in Figure 1, or formed in any other manner. It will also be understood 7Q that the piece of material on the underside of i the outer portion of the collar may be formed in any other manner or attached to the collar by any other means. In the design shown the outer portion 1' of thecollar is made as 7;; shown in Figure 4 with an outer piece of material 4. an inner piece of material 5, and a filler 6 between the outer and inner pieces of material. These pieces of material may be attached by threads as shown at the point 7 so in Figure 4, or in any other manner. In the design shown the inner piece of material 5 is made somewhat longer than the piece of material 4 and is folded backward at the point Sand then forward at the point 9 forming the fiapwhich is indicated by the numeral 3. The piece of material 5 may be sewed to the folded portion by threads 10 at the point 9, as shown in Figure 4, and the outer folded edge which is indicated by the so numeral 8 may be free, as shown. From the fold 9 the piece of material 5 extends for? ward to the edge of the collar where it is held by the stitches 7 in the usual manner. It will be understood, as hereinbefore stated, that the flap 8 may be formed by attaching an extra piece of material to the inner piece a of material 5, or in any other manner. A button hole 11 is formed in the flap 3, as shown, 7 and a button 12 is placed on the neck band 2 of the collar and the button is located in such a position that when the button hole 11 is placed over it the outer portion of the collar will be held downward in a smooth and neat position. It will be noted that as the outer portion of the collar is made of two thicknesses of material, similar to the neck band, the amount of shrinkage between the fold of the collar, as indicated by the numeral 13,

and the button or button hole will be the same so that after the shirt is laundered the distance from the fold to the button and button hole will be equal and the collar will, therefore, always have a neat appearance.

It will be understood that other changes may be made in the construction without departing from the spirit of the invention. One of which changes may be in the location or position of the button hole or button, another may be in the use of other means for holding the flap 3, or the underside of the collar to the neck band, another may be in the use of the device in a collar of a different type, and still another may be in the use of more than one button on each side of the collar.

The construction will be readily understood from the foregoing description. In use the collar may be provided as shown in the drawing and as it is used a necktie may be placed therein in the usual manner and after the collar is buttoned by the button 14 the button holes 11 may be buttoned over the buttons 12 so that the corners of the collar will be held downward by means that is not visible from the exterior of the collar. These corners may be buttoned either before or after the necktie is tied and it will be noted that by holding these corners in this manner it will be possible to keep the necktie in the center of the collar at all times.

Havingthus fully described the invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:

1. In a shirt collar of the type in which the outer portion is made of an outer layer of material, an intermediate layer of material, and an inner layer of material, said inner layer of material folded over at points adj acent the ends forming flaps extending continuously from the upper to the lower edges, reinforcing said collar and holding the ends of the outer portion straight, said flaps having buttonholes therein, and buttons on said neck band corresponding with said buttonholes to hold the ends of said outer portion continuously from the upper to the lower edges thereof.

2. In a shirt collar of the fold over type in which the fold over top consists of an inner and outer ply of material, flaps having button holes therethru located adjacent the lower edge, said flaps formed of the same piece of material from which the inner sur- 7 face of the collar is formed and folded over at points adjacent the ends of the collar, said
