Be it known that I, MARY ELIZA DUCK- woRTH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Belton, in the county of Bell and State of Texas, have invented a new and useful Garment-Supporter, of which the following is a specification.

The invention relates to improvements in garment-supporters.

The object of the present invention is to improve the construction of garment-supporters and to provide a simple, inexpensive, and eicient device adapted to support the hose and lower garments from the shoulders and capable of permitting perfect freedom of movement of every part of the body without chafing the same.

A further object of the invention is to provide a garment-supporter of this character which will neither tighten or loosen when the wearer stoops, so that there will be no liability of either tearing holes in the hose or of permitting garments supported by the device to fall or loosen when stooping.

Another object of the invention is to provide a garment-supporter designed for use by infants, children, or ladies of all ages and capable of being readily arranged to adapt it to the character of the garments to be supported.

With these and other objects in view the invention consists in the construction and novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the claims hereto appended, it being understood that various changes in the form, proportion, size, and minor details of construction within the scope of the claims may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.

In the drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of a garment-supporter constructed in accordance with this invention and shown arranged on a child. Fig. 2 is a similar view of the garment-supporter detached, the waistband being removed. Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view of the waistband. Fig. 4 is a sectional view on the line 4 4 of Fig. 2. Fig. is a similar view on the line 5 5 of Fig. 2. Fig. 6 is a detail sectional view taken at right angles to Fig. 5. Fig. 7 is a detail perspective View illustrating the arrangement of the loops of the suspender-straps.

1 l designate a pair of suspender-straps extending over the shoulders and diagonally across the body at the front and back thereof and connected at their ends at the hips by a piece 2 of suitable fabric. The suspenderstraps are secured together at the points of crossing by stitches 3 and 4, as indicated in Figs. 1 and Qof the drawings; but any other suitable means may be employed for this purpose. By this arrangement of the suspenderstraps the weight of the garments is sustained by the shoulders and the arms and other portions of the body are perfectly free, so that there is no liability of chafing the wearer or straining the device when stooping or otherwise moving the body. The suspenderstraps may be constructed of any suitable material, and as they are devoid of metal there is no liability of the device rusting and soiling the clothes of the wearer. The connecting-pieces 2, which are arranged at the inner and outer faces of the ends of the crossed suspender-straps, are provided with suitable eyelets 5, adapted to receive safety-pins 6 of hose-supporters 7, which extend downward to the hose, as clearly illustrated in Fig. 1 of the drawings. These pieces are oppositely tapered, as shown, and are suitably stitched to the terminals of the suspender -straps. Thesuspender-straps are provided at their inner faces with loops 8, which are adapted to receive a waistband 9 and which are located at the waist of the wearer, as shown. These loops extend longitudinally of the suspender-straps and are suitably stitched at their ends to the same. The waistband, which is supported by the loops, is also provided with a plurality of buttons l0, adapted to engage buttonholes 1l of the suspender-straps to assist in connecting the waistband to the suspender-straps. The waistband is also designed for supporting childrens lower garments in the usual manner and may be advantageously employed for children of either sex. When the garment-supporter is used for infants and ladies, the waistband is not employed and may be removed. When used for infants, the hose-supporters will retain the napkin in position; but when it is not desired to use `stockings on a child the hose-supporter may be detached and an ordinary safety-pin may be placed in the eyelets 5 oft 1e connecting-pieces 2 for securing the napkin to the latter.

It will be seen that the garment-supporter is exceedingly simple and inexpensive in construction, that it is adapted to support the weight of various garments and the hose from the shoulders, and that it will permit perfect freedom of movement of every part of the body and prevent any straining, tearing, or loosening of the parts supported when the wearer stoops. It will also be apparent that the waistband is detachable and may be readil5T placed in position or removed from the suspender-straps, and that the hose-supporters may be easily attached to and removed from the suspender-straps, and that the garment-supporter is capable or' being readily arranged to suit the character of the garments to be supported, whereby it may be advantageously used in either summer or winter by infants, children of both sexes, and ladies of all ages.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

l. A garment-supporter of the class described, comprising suspender-straps extending from the shoulders to the hips and provided at theirv terminals with supporting means, said suspender-straps being also provided between their ends with buttonholes` loops mounted on the inner faces of the suspender-straps and located at the said buttonholes, and a removable waistband arranged within the said loops and provided with buttons engaging the buttonholes of the suspender-straps and forming garment-supporters.

2. A garment-supporter of the class described, comprising suspender-straps extending from the shoulders to the hips and provided at their ends with connectingpieces having eyelets for the reception of supporting devices, a waistband arranged above the ends of the suspenderstraps and provided with garment-supporting means, and means for detachably connecting the waistband with the suspender-straps.

'3. A garment-support, comprising a waistband, duplicate diagonally arranged suspender-straps crossed and connected at the point of crossing at both the front and back and terminating below the waistband and connected together at their ends, said straps being provided with means at an intermediate point for removably supportingthe waistband, and supporting devices detachably carried by the connected terminals of the suspender-straps, below the waistband.
