Description

f uitcheH'N W, liefde nire-Nt. .es New YORK, N. Y.
A mPscvBMsN-rgni-uren-mss 'UO ALL WHOM ITMAYCONCEBN Bej it known tbatI, JOHN 'oUGHro'm ofNow York, in the county of NewYork, end State-of New York, have' invented certein new and useful Improvements in Files for Filingnnd -PreservinglBcpers; endl do'hereby declare that the following is'. full, clear, end exact descrptionfthereof, referenee being' had tb tlie ccompenying drhwings, making partbfthis specilcation, and to the letters of reference marked thereonl V Like letters indicating like parts wherever they occur.A I
To enable others skilled in the art to construct and use my invention, I will proceed to describe it. My iuvention consists in constructing n ile, f or. filing end 'preserving business-papers, of a. stiff beck'of `pestcboerd or'similarmaterial, with elastic bends' applied in such'e manner as to be retained in place, and et the sameilne be cepebleof being'removedor rcpleced at pleasure.-
Figure is'al'frpnt view of thesinglc tll e co111pl`ete.`
Figure 2, a. v iew of the hinged frontpiece, to be. used in? connection therewith, wheii desired; end f Figure ais afview of the tile, slightly7 modified-,nso lettexytiler `Files-foi"- holdngfbusinesepapers, es heretofore medmconsist of two pieces of pn'steboerd, united bybauds of elasticfwebbingsol fastened, to one or both'ol the piecesithat it cunnotlbe en-sily'removedA or renewed, und asI this webbing sonbecomes stretched or brokernxth'c lethereb'y becomes useless.,
It is to obvietethis dilliculty, und :lt-the seme time toproduce'e lethet shall-be simple;` and cheepei',`end one that is also adapted tov u more extended 'variety of uses, that my invention isu'ntended. i i To construct it, I tuke s. piece of :my still` material, such as pasteb'ozrrd, and cut=i`t into the form represented by'A, g. 1. I then cut four or more elongated holes near the edges, u s represented by a, fig. 1, und from these holes I cute' slit, extending to the odge, as represented by eje-nd ef, fig. 1. v f
By slightly bendingthe portions between the holes a und the edge= the slits e are easily opened sufficient to admit the insertion of ordinary rubber bends, es shown by b of lig. 1. I
When thus couipleted,l papers een be inserted undertho bends-b; on one or both sides, zind securely held in pleee, and if the bauds b s bould be et :my timebroken, they can be readily removed, and others substituted,
the bands being securely held in plzie by being inserted in the holes a, es described. I
It is obvious that, if preferred, notches in ey be cut in the edges of' the piece A,"s show-n in fig. '4, to hold the .bends in place, but'these nrenot 4censidered as goed, for thefrenson that they d/o not leave the edges smooth and even, as in the other esse. y v. l i
If it be'desired to' have a. cover for both sides, es may be necessary when the le is to lieeerried aboutz the piece B, having a llexible joint-et inlay be usedyilt being'inserted underthe bends b on the'piece, and having the bends resting in thernotehes a' y Il' it be desired to seperate different 'papers in the .same tile, it can be easily done, by means of the smell .elastic bands e, which are'onlylinlended to be used in special ceses. Y I Y For tilingletters'` with their envelopes, or previous to their being permunentlytilcd away, I cut the piece A. of .thossize of en' ordinary envelope, or n.' littlelerger, and place on it the elastic bands c and h, as represented ing. 13, the letters being irstinser'ted under the bends c, cndthe bend k being then placed over them in the oppositedirection,4 although this lustis'notfabsolutely necessary. i
' By thse means I produce en extremely cheap andsimple tile.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is A paper-file, consisting of one or more pieces of pastebourd or other suitable materiel, having notches or recesses cut in its edge, for the reception et' ordinary elastic bends, with the bands applied thereto, ell substantially es described.
