Witueoaeo Patented May 30, 1905.
PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN A. BU'OKSTAFF, OF LINCOLN, NEBRASKA.
HIP-STRAP DROP AND TRACE-CARFilER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 791,241, dated May 30, 1905.
Application filed J uiy 21,1904. Serial No. 217,569.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I. JOHN A. BUOKSTAFF, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lincoln, in the county of Lancaster and State of Nebraska, have invented certain new and useful- Improvements in Hip-Strap Drops and Trace-Carriers; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to an improvement in hip-strap drops and trace-carriers, and has for ble in construction and ornamental and which will not have any projections to catch the hair of the animals tail or the reins and which will not be liable to get out of order.
Referring to the drawings, Figure 1 is a front elevation; Fig. 2, a side elevation; Fig. 3, a bottom plan; Fig. 4, a central vertical section on the line 1 1 of Fig. 1; Fig. 5, a horizontal section on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1.
In the drawings, in which like numerals of reference denote like parts throughout the several views, 1 represents the hip-strap drop and trace-carrier, which may, if desired, have a piece of wear-leather behind the same and which comprises a top portion 2, having an elongated slot 3 for receiving the upper portion 3 of the hip-strap, and a dome-shaped circular bottom portion 4, provided with an elongated curved slot 5 for receiving the lower ends 7 of the hip-strap. At each side of the bottom portion 4 a curved slot Sis provided for the purpose of receiving the tiestrap or other straps.
9 is an opening in the top of the central part of the dome-shaped portion, whichis provided with an arm 10, depending from the upper edge thereof and having a rearwardly-extenck ing lug or pin 11, the end of which terminates approximately in line with the rear of the dome-shaped portion A. A lip or lug 12 extends upwardly from the lower edge of the opening 9, and on each side thereof a curved recess or notch 13 is provided. The lug 11 holds the cockeye of a trace, and the curved recesses or notches 13 receive and holdthe therefrom and the'cockeye or link is inserted over the end of the lug 11, with its sides resting in the curved notches or recesses 13 and the lug 12 extending up into said cockeye just below the lug 11, which will securely hold the trace in place.
. It will be seen that the device can be manufactured very cheaply, it being capable of being readily cast complete in one piece.
I do not desire to be understood as limiting myself to the specific details of construction and arrangement as herein described and illustrated, as it is manifest that variations and modifications may be made in the features of construction and arrangement in the adaptation of the device to the various conditions of use without departing from the spirit of my invention and improvements. I therefore reserve the right to all such variations and modifications as properly fall within the scope of my invention and the terms of the following claims.
What I claim is 1. A hip-strap drop and trace-carrier pro vided with slots at the upper and lower portions, a dome-shaped portion having arecess, an arm extending into said recess toward the center thereof and provided with a lug, a lug projecting upward into said recess and forming notches on the opposite sides thereof, substantially as described.
2. A hip-strap drop and trace-carrier provided with slots at the upper and lower portions and at each side, adome-shaped portion having a recess, an arm extending into said recess and provided with a lug, a lug projecting into said recess toward said arm and form- 0 ing notches on the opposite sides thereof, substantially as described.
3. A hip-strap drop and trace-carrier provided with an elongated slot at the upper end 5 for the reception of the upper end of the hipstrap, a curved elongated slot at the lower end for the reception of the lower ends of the hip-strap, slots on opposite sides, a recess having an arm extending into and toward the 10 center of the same provided with a tapering lug and a lug projecting into said recess forming notches on the opposite sides thereof, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I aifix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
JOHN A. BUOKSTAFF.
