ALFRED M. WEEKES, OF NEW YORK, N. Y;
Letters Patent No. 79,039, dated June 16, 1868.
IMPROVEMENT IN LAMP-SHADE.
fil s gtlgehule were it in tlgese item name nut mating port if flge same.
To ALL WHOM IT MAYOONGERN:
Be it .linown that I, ALFRED M. WEEKEE, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and improved Lamp-Shade; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable those skilled in the art to make and use the same. reference being had to the accompanying drawings, Iorming part of this specification, in which Figure 1 represents a side view of toy improved lamp-shade.
Figure 2 is a sectional elevation of the same.
Similar letters ofreferenee indicate corresponding parts.
A is the shade, B the burner, and C the lamp-chimney.
In fig. 2, it will be noticed that the flame is wholly surrounded by theshade, but that the upper end of the ilnme is nearly on a. level with the upper edge of the shade.
The demi-light produced above the flame is thus free to illuminate the room, while the main light will be reflected downward upon the table on which thelamp stands. V 7
My invention consists in the application of one or more elongated projections, 11 a, which are formed on the lower edge of the shade, as shown, so that the same can be turned, tobring the projection between the light and a sick or weak person, while the rest of the shade will serve also-reflector.
These projections may be of suitable shape and size.
On the ring D are formed two or more upward-projecting arms or lugs, 6 Z), which, when the shade has been fitted over and'around the ring, can be bent over the upper edge of the shade, to clamp the same, as is clearly shown in the drawing.
The use of an outer ring is thus dispensed with, and the shade is fastened in u very simple manner to the inner ring.
I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- Providing the lamp-shade with one or more elongated projections, a a, substantially as and for the purpose herein shown and described.
ALFRED M. WEEKES.
