To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, WILBUR F. HEDsTRoM, a citizen of the United States, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and porting the heady of a person who is having the head shampooed when the hair is being washed at the washbowl;. and the object thereof is to provide a simple and efficient device which can be readily attached to the slab of a washbowl and which will support the head of the person whose hair is being washed. I accomplish these objects by the headrest described herein and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved head-rest in place upon a washstand, the washstand being shown in section. Fig. 2 is a plan of the same with one of the members partly broken away. Fig. 3 is an end elevation looking at it from the front end, which end projects over the bowl; and Fig. 4 is a modification.

My improved head-rest is preferably constructed of a resilient rod 4, which is bent to form a U-shaped supporting-body 5, as best shown in Fig. 2. The ends are then bent around and under the body portion and then backwardly and then forwardly to form the supporting-springs 6, which raise the body portion the required distance above the slab 8 of the bowl 9. As best shown in Fig. 1, the ends terminate in retaining-hooks 10, which slip loosely upon the edge of the slab. That portion of the rod which forms the body is covered by a piece of rubber hose 11, with a larger piece 12 on the outside, and the ends are covered with caps 13. The front 14 is preferably slightly curved downwardly in the center, as best shown in Fig. 3, to fit the curvature of the forehead. If desired, a composition, such as used in clothes-wringers could be molded on the body of the rod, or the body could be made of a piece of wood turned, steamed, and bent to shape and then provided with supporting-springs and retaining-hooks.

In the use of my device the person whose head is being shampooed sits in front of the washstand and places the head within the body of the rest with the face downward, so that the hair may be thrown over into the bowl, where it can be readily washed. As the pressure of the person using the rest is toward the bowl, there is no danger of the head-rest becoming accidentally disengaged from the slab; but, if desired, the hook 10 could be made to fit the slab tightly and hold the rests securely thereon; but I prefer the loose hook, as it enables one to attach the head-rest to slabs of different thickness. If desired, the attaching-hooks could be made adjustable, as shown in Fig. 4.

Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. A head-rest comprising a U -shaped body having supporting means secured to the rear end thereof and attaching-hooks secured to said supporting means.

2. A head-rest comprising a resilient supporting-body; inner ends of said supportingbody terminating in spring-hooked engaging means; outer ends of said supporting-body curved downwardly and covered with flexible coverings.
